Academics Honors & Advanced Placement

Honors and Advanced Placement(AP) courses are not open enrollment. Students must be recommended by their previous year teacher based on their success in the preceding course along with other factors such as work ethic, maturity, class participation, and other factors. Freshmen are placed in honors courses based on their middle school transcript and placement exam performance. Due to our curriculum structure, senior students have limited access to Honors Courses.

Spring 2020 COVID Statement On March 13th for the health and safety of our students and community, Archmere Academy made the difficult decision to move to synchronous virtual learning, which we continued through to the end of the 2019-‘20 school year. A four-day, four course per day schedule commenced with the fifth weekday being treated as a reading day for supplemental coursework, tutoring, and advising. Archmere maintained the rigorous academic expectations for which it is known, and our faculty did innovative work in creating an online academic environment that both challenged and supported our students. Final grades for Semester 2 were drawn from students’ on-campus time and their virtual experience. The average unweighted GPA in Semester 2 increased only .05 compared to Semester 1 for the Class of 2021. We are proud of our students, faculty, and administration for the ability to adapt to a crisis and stay connected as a community, while preserving academic integrity and extending compassion to the entire Archmere community in a time of need.
