Join us for the OSU Discover Architecture Summer Workshop, an online, live program this June!

DISCOVER ARCHITECTURE

The Discover Architecture Summer Workshop introduces the fields of Architecture Design and Architectural Engineering to potential university students through academic projects that are designed to stimulate creativity.

Dates There are two opportunities to attend the week long workshop:

June 14-18, 2021 , or June 21-25, 2021 Students choose which of the two sessions they wish to attend. The workshop will be held virtually, in interactive zoom meetings. We begin at 1:30pm with a project introduction, allow time for students to work on the projects at home, and then reconvene to review and discuss the participant’s work. We conclude by 5:30pm each afternoon, but assign a little homework!

Activities Students research famous architects and learn about contemporary architecture from across the world. Architectural Engineering principles are shared and then students design and load test a truss they make at home. Most importantly, participants learn about and explore fundamental design principles while designing unique objects using Rhino digital modeling software on their home computer.

Eligibility Students who are at least 15 years old are eligible to register and attend. To participate effectively, students must have reliable internet connectivity, and a home computer with Windows 10, a 64-bit Intel processor, and at least 8GB of memory. The design software download is free!

Participation Fee There is a $50 fee for participants to attend the live, online workshop. This fee covers instruction by award winning OSU faculty during the workshop.

The workshop is sponsored by OSU and several architecture firms from across the USA.

Discover Architecture was an exciting week with interactive projects and opportunities to receive constructive criticism from the OSU professors.

Along with other inventive students, I learned about design, composition, and the tools architects use. Joining the Discover Architecture program kindled my love of architecture, and gave me insights into the profession of today. Plus, it was fun!

Eliana G. Discover Architecture Student Summer 2020 I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I enjoyed getting to experience the difference between an architecture design project and an architectural engineering one. I had so much fun using Rhino making the geometric compositions that I didn’t want the Discover Architecture week to end.

The instructors did a great job; there wasn’t a single activity that I didn’t enjoy.
