‘ABOUT ME’ Highly organized and hardworking Master of Architecture graduate from Liverpool John Moore’s University.

Time management has been a pivotal skill whilst working in practice two days per week alongside studying.

Experience in the residential sector seeking to develop my knowledge in other sectors hence my decision to design a spa facility (Settled Waters) in my final year thesis project.

‘01 SITOPIA’

Yr. 2 Group Urban Design Project

Site location: Glasgow City Site area assessment: Our analytical research suggested key areas of concern within Glasgow were Calton and Gorbals. The general health and life expectancy in these two areas were statistically the lowest throughout Glasgow. Therefore, these areas became the focus of our development. Championing healthy living throughout the proposal could be a way to help reduce these alarming figures. Our additional concerns included the disconnection the river Clyde and the railway line created. A walking travel time of 5-minutes would take an individual from a well-developed neighbourhood to a deprived area. Our development sites focus on re-connecting these areas and to increase the usability of the overall area.

Proposed project description: Throughout our research it was shocking to learn about the poor quality of life and health throughout Glasgow. Therefore, our proposal aimed to increase life expectancy and improve the quality of living throughout Calton and Gorbals. To achieve this, we proposed to introduce demonstration framing spaces. Thus, the name ‘Sitopia’ which means a place of food. One demonstration farm would research, educated, and grow produce using hydroponics and aquaponics. The other will research, educate, and sustainably farm fish. Both farming exhibition centres will provide for the local area and demonstrate technology and sustainable methods of improving the health of an area. Additionally, implementing new health spaces such as a mental health facility, sports facilities, and sustainable infrastructure to address other aspects of health.

‘02 SETTLED WATERS’ Yr. 2 Thesis Design Project

Site location: Gorbals, Glasgow City Site area assessment: The Gorbals area (site images below) holds the lowest life expectancy and general health across the whole of Glasgow. The Strathclyde brewery pollutes the area with a strong yeast which can be smelt through the Glasgow Green. The surrounding buildings include a nursery and apartments. The deprived area felt like the forgotten space and needed improvement. The river edge was heavily damaged in 2018 which resulted in no use of cycle or walking routes through this area. Therefore, individuals must walk along the road edge (unsafe). The site holds a strong presence from the Glasgow Green, but the existing aesthetic prevents people from crossing the river Clyde. The underutilised river front of the Gorbals could be key to reconnecting either side of the river Clyde which could improve the usability of the area.

Proposed project description: Settled Waters shows the development of a spa facility located in Glasgow. The masterplan embraces the cultural signifance of the Glasgow Green and challenges people to explore the Gorbals (across the river).

The development also makes use of the river Clyde for transport into the building, activities, and energy to heat internal pools. The spa facilities exterior expression of the building implements stone to evoke a quality of the Earth. The lightweight form of the top proportion of the building adds relief and a softness to the reading of the building. Internally, the building promotes calmness, warmth, and mystery using circular forms which subtly allow gradients of light into each space.
