My name is KIFLEMARIAM MELKU. I am an acrhitecture student at Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Planning EiABC. I have been into arts and design since childhood. I draw and sketch a lot. And recently, thanks to architecture school I am also very familiar with different design concepts and softwares both architectural and non architectural. I am fluent in both Amharic and English. I can also work very well in a team environment.

Course: Basic Architectural Design
Location: Lideta, Addis Ababa
The aim of building a Social Hub is to create a central space where people can come together to connect, engage, share experiences, and participate in various activities. This space fosters socialization, collaboration, and support among its members, ultimately enhancing their quality of life and promoting social cohesion. By providing opportunities for individuals to engage in social, cultural, educational, or recreational activities.
This project tries to be inclusive of all age and social groups. It has a cafe, a lounge for the elderly, a game zone for the youth, a playground for kids and a terrace.
Course: Architectural Science (HVAC)
Location: Nazreth, Ethiopia
The main aim of this project was to design passive solar systems to attain comfortable indoor spaces. The program is an apartment complex located in Nazreth. There are 4 buildings in total and within each building there are 4 apartment units. Each apartment unit is designed in a way that it maximizes thermal comfort. This is done by positioning bedrooms towards the east and the hallways towards the south-west where they will serve as a buffer space. Horizontal and vertical shading systems are also applied based on the location and sunpath.

Location: Piazza, Addis Ababa
The architecture of the building focuses on providing shading to pedestrian walkways through an innovative facade design. The interface between the building and the street ensures a seamless integration with the urban environment, enhancing the pedestrian experience.
Our concept is to coalesce the indoor and outdoor spaces inorder to form a new space that feels like both inside and outside. This will create a harmonious connection between the architectural and the urban context, that we would like to refer to as the coalescence.
Course: Appropriate Building Technology
Location: Dorze, Ethiopia
The objective of the project is to use the vernacular techniques and materials to create an efficient working/living space for our client. Which is a typical dorze household with parents and three kids. The Dorze House has a living area as well as working area where they do their famous weaving and a showroom for thier work.

Location: Kirkos, Addis Ababa
Our site found in addis ababa city Kebele 01, Woreda 02, Kirkos SubCity area of Addis Ababa The major neighbourhoods surrounding this area are Addis zoo park and turkey embassy. The main objective is to find a way to clean up the river while also creating an accessible and enjoyable space for the locals to experience. And to be sustainable and generate income for the peoope in need too.

I participated in a group project to study Japanese architecture and it’s history; this is our final presentation comprised of drawings, a model and connection joints used in traditional Japanese Architecture.
