About Archimake’s Founder Cheryl Pilliner-Reeves RIBA ARB FHEA
Problem Many children have Interests that fall outside their parents skillsets. Being adopted I was one such child. I set up Archimake so not only children of architects can learn at an early age about the fun of 3D design and the built environment. I went beyond the years of architecture study to become a sustainability expert and qualified academic whilst my parents had not been to University. This photo is taken at my 5th graduation ceremony on becoming a qualified academic. I thought it appropriate to have the moment frozen in time with a photo of my parents, husband and youngest son.
Problem – late start
Traditionally Architecture is taught only to adults from age 18. Architects are recognised as being quite old. This is due to the number of years of education required (5+ and more than doctors) The number of years of experience required (min 2 yrs in practice). In addition to this the number of years it takes to build a building (often 2-10 years). Or 20 years in the case of the British Library.
Problem - Shortages Due to low numbers of skilled workforce, Architects and Engineers are identified as having shortages in skilled workforce numbers in the UK Tier 2 Occupation Shortage list .
Solution: Start Early! Educational STEAM Workshops Over 4 years we have delivered workshops in architecture, engineering & design to children aged 6-16. We work in schools as extra-curricular clubs and for homeschool groups Children aged 12 have attended our workshops for 3 years.
Children are inspired by our workshops and often continue developing ideas after the workshop has ended as shown here.
Normalise & Interact!
Archimake also hosts interviews so children can meet architects and ask them questions, just as you would a friend. This helps to make architects less mysterious and more normal, reachable.

2b. Goals - Quality Education We monitor our workshops so children inform us of the quality of the education on a weekly basis.

2c. Goals – Gender Equality Girls can experience obstacles from exploring STEM subjects in our workshops because of gender.

We want to address the barriers to learning for girls to achieve equal boy:girl ratio in our workshops. Aligning to the UN Sustainable Goal No.5. we encourage girls to embrace technology and STEM subjects

2d. Goals – Youth Careers Some young people find it hard to find employment even after acquiring a university degree. We have created a training program for graduates to become Workshop Leaders and Assistants on our courses. They learn valuable leadership, time management and coaching skills, and appreciate the rewarding nature of giving to others. Aligning to the UN Sustainable Goal No.8. we provide training and work for young people.
2e. Goals - Social Barriers Many children are not given the opportunity to explore the built environment in a structured way. Limitations can be social barriers; that a child’s expected career will fall short of the education requirements of the built environment professions. By working with state schools in deprived areas we can help. Aligning to the UN Sustainable Goal No.10. we provide higher career aspirations.
3. Impact Archimake workshops are resident in schools indefinitely. We forge meaningful academic relationships over time and form safe nurturing communities where children can thrive. Since 2017 we have delivered over 6000 hours of workshops to children around London and the UK We have delivered workshops to over 600 children We have given workshops to children at over 15 schools We have given over 900 hours of holiday camps
4. Bursaries We have the following bursaries; Gender/BAME Equality bursary place for a child in a minority gender or ethnic group. Bursary for 1 child; £150 per term or £450 p/a Social Equality bursary for a school with a higher than average number of children on free school meals. Bursary for School (10 children) £1000 per term or £3000 p/a

7. Other Sponsorship Options Sponsorship can also be given as expert advice to guide our progress and growth. A Sponsor company would nominate a member of staff to sit on our Advisory Panel. Our Advisory Panel would be invited to give expertise and strategic advice in specific areas in which we currently lack. Advisors are invited to attend at least 1 of 3 of our termly Presentation events, either online or in person. We would also provide monthly updates of the workshops and childrens progress. We invite sponsors to contribute in ways that suit them and are keen to hear suggestions.
7. Other Sponsorship Options Other sponsorship options include: Printing; supporting our printing needs with our custom designed drawing paper. Each child uses 2 per workshop for 7 weeks We use approximately 700 sheets per term. Printing cost; £22.78 for 700 sheets p/term £57.19 for 2100 sheets p/a Presentation; supporting our End of Term Presentation event at which children share their project with parents and industry professionals. Refreshments; £10 per group / £30 p/a Portfolios; £100 p/group £300p/a Certificate printing; £20 p/group / £60 p/a

I really appreciated them having the opportunity to see what architecture involves and projects that have been worked on.
