From observing the Archimake classes and dipping in and out over the course of a term, I began to notice how….

• The workshop sessions were careful planned and thought-out to allow each child to get the best from them.

• Staff were adapting the sessions to suit the needs of all pupils and differentiated according to the pupil’s style for learning.

• Pupils were being guided through the workshop sessions and encouraged to be independent week upon week.

• Pupils’ levels of concentration and focus were increasing, they were more able to collaborate and share ideas, problem solve and find ways indepen dently or with a partner to think of solutions relating to their projects.

• Pupils were becoming more confident when talking to their peers and adults; having the opportunity to ‘showcase’ their learning to parents and carers at the end of the project had developed pupils’ oracy skills.

• Pupils were able to articulate their learning with confidence and to a larger audience.

All of the above has led to better outcomes for our pupils.

Today the Archimake team visited Channing Junior school where girls in KS2 had the opportunity to explore and make 3D structures inspired by famous buildings and landmarks. The girls worked with creativity and determination to make their 3D structures using marshmallows and tooth picks. The girls developed their skills in

designing, mathematics, problem solving, team working, communication, and independent thinking. Thank you very much to Cheryl Pilliner- Reeves and her team of enthusiastic architects from Archimake. You were so professional and such an inspiration to the girls. As the Design and Technology subject co-ordinator at Channing Junior School, I think it was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to learn from your wealth of knowledge and architectural industry experience. The summer camp was really fantastic as it combined sketching skills, looking and studying iconic buildings, their construction and detailing, meeting construction industry professionals and having some downtime for old fashioned outdoor play in between drawing and making tasks, as well as having a lot of fun in a small and manageable group!

Having also enrolled in the extracurricular classes during term time, these sessions have enhanced his curriculum subjects at school because they target an understanding of visual and spatial representation, as well as the marshalling of maths topics such as geometry and scale in a practical context. The presentations section at the end of each session has been brilliant in promoting his confidence in speaking in front of an audience and expressing creative ideas and concepts that are packed with the playfulness of a child's imagination!

Why Choose Archimake?

Archimake provides educational architecture and design workshops for school children. Workshops are organised around a series of fun model making and drawing exercises, tailored for KS1 to KS4 level.

We are an award winning architectural education programe, winning Best Architecture Education Initiative 2018.

Archimake is the only organisation run by professionally qualified architects providing outstanding architecture and design education for children at after school clubs in school.

Our workshops develop creativity, an analytical approach and lateral thinking together with problem solving abilities. On successfully completing a design to suit their own requirements, children are then introduced to design for others, which develops understanding of others needs, context and function.

Children make models and drawings using a variety of everyday materials, such as paper, card and wood.

We teach children real problem solving skills that happen in the professional lives of architects, urban planners and other professionals dealing with spaces.

Architectural skills are so versatile they are useful for designing anything from a table, to a room, a building or a city.

Our custom designed worksheets encourage a range of communication skills including visual thinking, sketching and orthographic drawing, literacy and descriptive language.

Archimake workshops can take place online or in classrooms. Workshops start from as little as £7.

The first term at primary and prep schools we run beginners workshops. The second term we offer beginners and intermediate workshops.
