Words Form EXCOS Linus, Chairperson I still can’t believe I made the decision to be the chairperson. I can easily list 10 of the worst things being the chairperson and programme secretary at the same time. However, if you ask me “Do you regret being an exco?’, I would still answer ‘No’. What I learnt is not only knowledge regarding archery and operations of the club, but also the mindset and vision towards different incidents. Sometimes you have to accept that there are nothing you can do due to restrictions on your authority. Sometimes you have to accept that bad things had happened and blaming people is pointless. Sometimes you have to accept that you ended up in a dead end. Despite frustration, I got the support from members to keep going and enlightened me. What I got is not only hard and soft skills, but social attachment to members my friends. Getting along with them rewards me with joy. That’s why I have no regret being an exco.

Through being IV, I was given the opportunity to organise orientation day, and learnt that I lack in many aspects and made mistakes along the way. However, thanks to the exco’s support, orientation day was successful. Without them, I don’t think it would have gone so well. Additionally, I spent a lot of time getting to know new members that I met during this session. I was surprised and happy to learn that there are people like me, who were shy to try out archery at first but soon opened up and even willingly came to our regular practices. I would particularly like to thank those I have met in training courses, who became our helpers to support our orientation day. As general secretary, I have learnt a lot of skills revolving documents and emails that I did not expect to have before, which will continue to be useful in my life. Jason, Financial Secretary Being the financial secretary of Archery Club, I learned a lot throughout the whole year like practical skills coping with banking issues, receipts, and fund applications. These are not likely to be acquired in our daily life. Yet, practice makes perfect and makes me being more familiar with them. These skills can help me to deal with similar problems in the future. Besides jong duties, I have met my jongmates, our coach, U-team members, active members. It is good to meet and have fun with you all this year. Having you guys causes me to improve my communication and cooperation skills. Despite the above things, there are still many other things I learned which I couldn't mention. However, I will treasure them well even ending my jong duties.

Angela, Publicity Secretary As someone who’s not blessed with sport genes (and still not), the initial decision to even become an exco for archery club is still honestly baffling to this day. I still remember questioning my abilities in handling multiple designs and orientation events, especially as the only publicity secretary of this session. Learning the skill of designing has without a doubt been rewarding, but the best thing I gained this year would hands down be the five hooligans I call my jongamates, and new friends who actually play archery. Despite tears and multiple stressful breakdowns, I'm so grateful to have my supportive friends that supported each other through thick and thin. 心底話不用多說 P.S. cheeky shout out to my two hella fun and chill sheung jongs - shi fu’s! - for being so patient when I have designing questions and for helping out during reg’ day without hesitation.

Ariel, External Vice-Chairperson Ariel, External Vice-Chairperson Being an EV is a tough work. However, what I gained in this year is never going to be replaced by any other things. Even though I have already had previous experience of being organizer in my secondary school life, being an Exco is still a next level to me. This is the first time for me to hold a public event and make decisions all by myself. It’s a great memory despite the tremendous stress and workload. The most grateful thing of this year is meeting my jongmates. In the past year, I encountered many difficulties in my life. Luckily, I have my jongmates supporting me greatly at my back. To me, they are my shield and dagger, my listeners and friends. Spending time with them is the happiest thing in my uni life. Making me never regret of being an Exco.

Hugo | Past Representative For the past three years, I have been serving the Club as an executive committee. To tell the truth, I have never imagined that I would be serving the club for three years in the first place. This, however, became the truth when I decided to devote myself into this place that I belong. In these three years, I have met many wonderful people who also joined the Club as an executive committee. We worked together, finished a myriad of tasks and overcame a ton of challenges in our duties. In our leisure time, I got along with them well and developed close friendships -- not just relationships between colleagues where only duty affairs matter. It is the precious time I have spent with them that cultivates my sense of belonging to the Club, accounting for my three-year period of duty. I served the Club as I enrolled into HKU, and my duty ends as I graduate. This makes my experience of “Sheung Jong” very remarkable and unique from most others. Yes, time is something bittersweet. Thinking of the four years of my University life, I always complain how fast time flies like an arrow. Nevertheless, it is with this “Sheung Jong” experience that made my University life fruitful. The time I have gone through with people in the Club will turn into memories and never come back. The memories, however, is everlasting and deeply etched. As I recall them, warmness comes deeply from my heart, contenting myself as always. Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude towards everyone in the Club. Thanks to you, I have enjoyed the brightest moments in my University life. Thanks to you, I have never regretted joining and serving the Club. The Club, the people, the smiles and tears on our faces, and the joys and sorrows we have shared throughout the time, will always be in my heart.

Superpass Although we were not able to host two superpass dinners this year, the first was memorable. New and active members chopped a roasted pig together, and received red packets from Tong, We wished each other good luck for the upcoming exams alongside our coach who was the greatest factor to our luck. We are thankful and happy for everyone who came and we hope they enjoyed our semster superpass dinner. - Vivian (Internal Vice-Chairperson)

o-period and reg dAY Registration Day was held in late August with the purpose to welcome and attract new members for both orientation day and training courses. This year, a fairy light photo wall was hung inside the booth to attract freshmen. In addition, videos of Korean and American celebrities playing archery, as well as a display of the clubâ€™s recurve bow were also used to spark interest in members.

Many leaflets were distributed to new members, showing them the range of events that the Club offers. We are extremely grateful for all the helpers that made registration day recruitment successful through their amazing promotion speaches. - Angela (Publicity Secretary)

Orientation daY

This orientation day was exciting! I was happy to see many people who didnâ€™t know anything about archery and those who came who came to our training courses to join us on this day. For this yearâ€™s orientation day, members got to know each other through ice-breaking games, and many different types of mass and checkpoint games for them to work together and build up teamwork. Most importantly, we achieved our aim to let new members play archery together, have a better understanding of archery, and a chance to try this sport if they havenâ€™t before.

Open Contest

The 29th HKU Archery Open Contest Ngau Chi Wan Archery Range The 29th HKU Archery Open Contest, one of the major events of our Club, was successfully organized on the 10th November, 2019. We are glad to see that archers grabbed the chance to advance their skills and gain experience in this contest. Self-advancement and sportsmanship were shown greatly in this contest. Also, thank you for the generous sponsors provided by the Hong Kong Archery Services Company Limited and Mentholatum (Asia Pacific Limited) and the support from all the judges and helpers. They took an important role in the contest. We hope the next HKU Archery Open Contest will be held smoothly.
