Foreword It is coming to the end of the Archery Club, HKUSU session 2017-2018. In the year the Club has held a number of events including Superpass, Training courses, Orientation day and the 27th HKU Archery Open Contest. Here I would like to thank our coach, Mr. Lam Siu Tong, for devoting himself into supporting our archers in regular practice and competitions, and giving his helping hands in the events including training courses and orientation day. Although this year, another coach Mr. Chui Chun Man went on a different path from us, we appreciate him for his help in previous sessions. Also, I would like to thank all members and graduates who have participated in our events as well as providing their helping hands. Hope everyone enjoyed the time with the Club. Here I would like to congratulate all our archers on decent result. It is grateful of the archers to have gained what they suppose to after paying so much effort. On the other hand, more and more new archers are being more nurtured with their archery skills. I am looking forward to seeing archery become a more popular sport. The Club has been and will always be a place for our archers to meet and have fun on archery together. Wish all the best to our coach, members, graduates and the Club.

Words from Executive Committee Members

It has been a long and challenging year, and it is now coming to the end. I would like to take the chance to thank our coach, members and graduates who offered helping hands to us. It would be impossible to complete the events without their help. Throughout the year, we have held some events, I am not going to say that they are all finished successfully, but I can say that our Excos made their effort on the events and I appreciate that a lot. It is the first time for most of us to hold events from planning to execution, though we may have some mistakes, we have learnt a lot from that. Archery is fun, I enjoy doing it and it is the motivation keeping me to serve the Club. Hope more people

Martin Chairperson

can enjoy archery and wish the club, the coach, the members and the graduates all the best in the future. The whole thing began with a tea gathering in FSC GA05. That was a small room with less than 20 people in it, all surrounded by an aurora of...awkwardness. But I still went for the post settlement meeting and for the first time I met all my future jeong mates. I might not have known at the time, but I was so lucky to have them with me Yenki Internal Vice Chairperson

this year. Impression is an interesting thing. Even now, I couldn’t help comparing how they looked to me and what they actually are. It is happy to see them acting as I predict and happier to watch them change. Thank you for helping, supporting and covering for me all the time.

The journey in this year was never a plain sailing. To start with, undergoing campaign was fraught with fright. Then it came to quarrels and conflicts between jeong mates. The most significant would be chaos arising from Orientation Day. It seemed to be a curse that confirmed applicants would not be free on the day of event, just like the curse that rain followed training courses. One Archeir = eleven people + twelve months = infinite memories.

Carlee External Vice Chairperson Acting Equipment Manager

The coming of 2018 means nearly the end of jeong period. Filled with countless precious memories, I feel grateful being an Exco of Archery Club, HKUSU. When I first got into HKU last year, everything around to me was so unfamiliar. People with new faces and different background, lessons without fixed schedules, tons of clubs and societies, and so Hugo General Secretary

on. Decided to leave my comfort zone as well as get more friends, I have made a step ahead and tried something new – joined Archery club, HKUSU and became an Exco of it. Here I have met my dear jeong mates. Throughout the period, we worked and organized various events together. Because of our collaboration, difficult

problems were able to solve and sophisticated tasks were able to finish, even though not every events went smooth and ran without mistakes. Thanks to this experience, we got closer, understood each other more and have created more and more precious memories. I have never regretted walking on the same path with my fellow jeong mates.

It was grateful to meet all my jeong mates in my University life. Time flies, most of the time serving the jeong was gone. Many precious moments were captured in my memory. Being a social secretary, I was mainly in charge of organizing birthday parties. It was favoured to see the smiling faces of my jeong mates while processing the surprise parties. Also, I was the person-incharge of superpass. That was the first time I held an event for the club. Luckily it did not mess up. Special thanks to all participants and my helpful jeong mates so that superpass could be held successfully. The moments of jeong mates would be everlasting. Hope that the relationship among jeong mates will hold in the remaining time in the university and even more.

Patrick Social Secretary

Cathy Publicity Secretary

To be honest, even today I still fail to come up with a reason for deciding to be an Exco of the Club. It might be a pure act of impulse, but I am grateful to my decision. Being a publicity secretary is a whole new experience. Posters that I’ve never designed, software that I’ve no idea how to work with... looking back, I couldn’t believe that I have managed to complete most of the duties. Hard work didn’t always pay off, but this was what makes things fun. People could ban the whole product in a second with a few vague words even after many days of effort. Thanks to them, I learnt to filter comments instead of making every choices according to their judgement. Thanks to them, I found the unconditional supports from my jeong mates when I was confused. The 32nd session is coming to an end. Designs will be replaced, but our endeavour and friendship will last.

Mimi Publicity Secretary

Being the team captain was an unplanned decision because I am a PG student who is supposed to be very busy. I thought I could be less involving in the activities and only focusing on my own duties, but it turns out not the case. The title ‘Team Captain’ comes with not only great honour but also huge responsibilities that I couldn’t imagine in the first place. It is a challenging year that I have to sacrifice my study time and practice time to barely meet my standard of being the team Juno Team Captain

captain. Did I regretted? Have I ever think of quitting? Maybe yes, in some occasions during the year. However, at this moment, I feel lucky that I did make it to the end. I think I would feel regret even more if I have given up or not taking up this post at all. Overall, it is the most unforgettable bittersweet experience in my six-year-long university life.

IUAT The Inter Universities Archery Tournament was successfully held on the 19th February, 2017 at the Ngau Chi Wan Park Archery Range. Here I would like to thank to our members again for their contribution to the overall championship, as well as our coach for the support given to us. Although it was cold and windy on the day of the Tournament, our archers have fought for their best results. The success of the Tournament was accomplished by the organizing committees with the host of PolyU, working together with CUHK, EdUHK, HKBU, HKUST and us, HKU. Wish our members for their best in the coming IUAT and improvement in archery skills.

Training Course   Training course, where basic skills are taught to novices in archery, aims to enhance the interest of archery among HKU students. After completing the course, they can be elected as members of U-Team and take part in various competitions. This year we have a total of 6 training courses. There are more than a hundred of new faces we met through the courses. Their passion in archery and satisfaction in the courses please me very much. Our coach Mr. Lam Siu Tong is an indispensable person of the courses. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his time and effort. Without his help, these courses would not be well organized. Also, I am grateful for the help from all helpers and executive members. Their contributions are important to the success of the courses.

The O-period is a remarkable time when our Excos and Club members grasped every single chance to attract and welcome new members. This year, it is grateful to have many new members joining our family.

O-Period & Reg Day

The registration day was held successfully on 10/8 and 11/8. Arrows with shining nocks stuck on the top of the booth were used to catch attention from the passer-by. Target faces arranged in a uniform pattern made up two sides of the booth, which gave a decent impression to our potential members. Over 1000 leaflets were distributed to promote the training courses as well as the O-day. Stickers were distributed to new members as a welcoming gift. We were happy to see the enthusiasm of the freshmen actively joining our Club activities.

In the second week of September, we have set up a counter at the Run Run Shaw Podium. 2 classes of the training courses had exceeded its quota by the end of the week. We were proud to see the enchantment of archery. Thank you for your support.

Orientation Day Orientation Day is held every year in late September for new members who have a flair or find some charm in archery. Through the event, they can gain a basic understanding of shooting with real arrows and bows. By engaging in different game activities with the group, they may find the new acquaintances besides them having traits to be their life-long friends. The games range from ice-breaking games to “maze”, “chase” and “chess” games which developed cooperation, trust and synchronization in the group. It highlights not only the start of an archer’s learning year but also the beginning of heartfelt friendship among our new and old members. Thanks to our caring coach, generous old members and my selfless committee members, this year’s Orientation Day was a huge success. I sincerely hope that the event will leave all participants some archery knowledge, many like-minded friends and countless pieces of blissful memory.

Superpass Dinners Superpass dinners were successfully held on 25/4 and 29/11. We had organized roasted pig chopping and lucky draw sessions. Here I would like to thank our coach LAM Siu Tong to help deliver red pockets to the participants. Members were blessed for succeed in the examination. This was also the best chance to reinforce the relationship between members and the jeong and even the proposed jeong next year. Hope you enjoyed the events and see you next time!

The 27th HKU Archery Open Contest Time flies, another year has passed.

I am in charge of the 27th HKU Archery Open Contest, which is an annual competition and one of the major events of our Club. There are over 230 applications and over 140 participants. The weather was sunny and comfortable that day. The competition ran smoothly in spite of various difficulties and unexpected problems encountered, thanks to the contribution and collaboration of other Committee members. It was grateful of me that our member, Miss Mak Kak Kak, reigned the champion of the Recurve Intermediate Woman Division. Moreover, I can work along with other committee members and have some of the 33rd Proposed Executive Committee Members helping me in this event. during the whole process.

It is hoped that Archery Club, HKUSU and the 28th HKU Archery Open Contest will run smoothly in the next year.
