Words from the Editor This year is the 31st Anniversary of Archery Club, HKUSU. It is absolutely my honour to have the chance to be the editor for this newsletter. 31 years maybe little to the universal which slip away easily in the blink of an eye. But it is surely not a short period of time to us. Things change every day in this 31 years. Some of them are worth to be remember of, especially those moments of happiness, victories and being together with our buddies and loved ones. Though there were also hard times and mistakes, they are worth to be treasured as well as they make us who we are. Some of the history of our Club might have been lost over time. But thanks to technology advancement, we can now have a pretty good record of all events in a year and summarise them here. And this is my greatest wish for the production of this newsletter. Though we all know that this little booklet of newsletter cannot contain all precious moments in this year, they will always be on our minds. Foreword The Archery Club, HKUSU, session 2016-2017 is coming to an end soon. Throughout the year we have organised various events such us Superpass, training courses, orientation day, the 26th HKU Archery Open Contest. There were a lot of new members joining our club and becoming fine archers; some of them along with our current members have shown their passion to archery and achieving excellent results in competitions and actively participating our regular practices. All of these could not have been possible without the help of our members, coaches and graduates, aiding us in various ways and supporting our events. I would like to thank our coaches, Mr. Lam Siu Tong and Mr. Chui Chun Man for serving our club by offering advices for our archers, assisting them in competition and showing support to them. They nurture our archers full-heartedly and it is because of them that our club could continue to grow. I would also like to thank my fellow executive committee members for organising numerous events and administrating the club and overcoming challenges together. It has been my pleasure to work with every one of you. This newsletter has shown some of the joyful and precious memories in the year among the events that the club has organised. Words from Executive Committee Members A year has passed in the blink of an eye. I could still remember the day when I step into the tea gathering room hesitantly and the day when we finally decided to become an exco. Looking back to these days right now, I’m glad that I did what I did. Throughout the year, I have been through a lot with my fellow exco. From the first event of Superpass to numerous training courses, registration day, orientation day and open contest, all of them are new to each of us and I have enjoyed every single bit of them. It’s certainly challenging for us to accomplish our work but our members, coaches, and graduates assisted us and spared their time to help us and it could not have been possible without their help. I would like to thank each and every single one of you for your support and giving me such enjoyable and fantastic moments. I would also like to take this chance to thank my fellow exco for giving in their best throughout the year. It is also because of this experience that I have met a lot of new friends and sought the place where I belong to in my university life.

I have gained so much from this journey, not only that I have learnt technical skills such as organising events and working with different types of people, I have also gained these precious memories of striving with my fellow exco and club members. Our session is soon coming to an end and I wish the next session would continue on to give in their best and enjoy the time of being with the club. Finally, none of these would have happened in my life if I did not went to the tea gathering a year ago and I am glad that I have become an exco and I would not regret for this decision.

HKU Archery Open Contest is a highlighted event every year. It is my honour to be the PIC of this event. With tremendous workloads, it is difficult for me to organise the event by myself. Luckily, I have lots of supports from my EV family, my exco members, coaches and members of the club. Without all your help, the open con will not be a great success. Being a member of the executive committee of Archery Club, HKUSU is an important and unforgettable piece of my university life. 4 years of university life, the club takes one-forth. In this one-fourth, I learnt to be considerate, to cooperate, to take up responsibilities and be logical. I paid my time, my effort, my sweat and my blood (for mosquitos on RBTC). I gained friendship and unforgettable memories. As the person in charge of the 7 training courses and Registration Day, I have to thank all the helpers for your time and effort in helping the smooth running of the training courses and the registration day. Also a big thank you and a big welcome to our training course participants: Thank you for being so enthusiastic in learning archery and many of you even joined the U-team. IUAT 2015-2016 Champion
Inter-Universities Archery Tournament 2015-2016 was held on 19th and 20th of March in Ngau Chi Wan Park Archery Range. The tournament was hosted by HKUST and organised along with HKU, CUHK, IEd (now EdUHK) and PolyU. Our club’s archers have achieved excellent results and despite the bad and unstable weather on the second day, our archers kept on completing the event, showing outstanding sportsmanship. All of our archers have strived for their best; many of them won the awards in their sessions and leading us to win the overall champion once again. As for the coming IUAT 2016-2017, it is going to be held on 19th February 2017 and also in Ngau Chi Wan Park Archery Range, we are looking forward to seeing our archers continue on to compete with other institutions and aiming at another year of championship for our club.

In this session, we have a total of 7 training courses. Classes AB in the summer holiday, CD in September, EF in October and class G during the semester break. I am pleased to say that classes ABCDEF are successfully held and the coming class G already has its quota full. That means, at the end of our session, there will be more than a hundred more HKU students who can do archery. What makes me feel even happier is that many of the participants had joined the U-team selection and some new faces showed up during our regular practice. Our training courses aim at training participants who have no prior experiences to becoming a qualified archer and to let more HKU students be interested and able to do archery. Here, I would have to give a big thank you to our coach, Mr. LAM Siu Tong, who teaches our 7 training courses. Without him, training courses would not have existed. I hope that all the participants have enjoyed the course.

The O period includes the registration days and the O period counter. The registration days were held
successfully and we have a lot of new faces joining our club activities. Here, we would like to give a big welcome to our freshmen new members of Archery Club. Our booth was decorated by a 122cm target face that attracts attentions and representing Archery. We distributed leaflets to freshmen and introduced our club activities to the interested ones. All the helpers had tried their best to attract freshmen’s attention and promote archery to them. Here, we have to thank all the helpers who had paid an effort on the registration days. Our O period counter was located in the Union Foyer outside Starbucks. We set up boards introducing our society products, posters showing our upcoming activities and demonstrated a metal bow for a little trial to let our potential members to know our club more.
Orientation Day Orientation day is a platform for freshmen to experience HKU culture and get used to the campus. I am pleased that the Orientation day this year went smoothly and was held successfully. The 31st cabinet worked together to make it to the best, and let members to get to know each other more deeply. I feel grateful about it and hope that members have had a good time during the day.

The 26th Open Contest
The 26th HKU Archery Open Contest has been successfully organised on the 16th October 2016. The HKU open contest is one of the important events each year. We aim to promote the sport of archery from our university to Hong Kong. Drawing in attraction of 143 archers, the open contest provides archers a platform to exchange archery skills and to seek self-advancement. This year, we are delighted to have contest approval from the Hong Kong Archery Association, and to receive generous sponsors from the Hong Kong Archery Services Company and Sunplay. Thank you for all helpers and judges’ support. We hope to see all of you again in the next HKU Archery Open Contest.
