HolyLandSchools
Thegreatesthopeforthe perpetuationoftheCatholic ChurchintheHolyLand liesinthemaintenanceof Catholicschoolsthere, accordingtoL'Osservatore Romano.
TheVaticanCitydaily newspaperhaspublished figuresonstudentsattending theCatholicschoolsandcollegesintheHolyLand, showingthat"about60per centoftheworkofteaching isforthoseofthe 'Orthodox'ritesandfornonChristians."
Accordingtothenewspaperfigures,thereareover 12,000studentsinthe schools.Only2,686belong totheLatinRite,and2,337 areCatholicsoftheOriental Rite.Therearebesides, 4,208Orthodoxstudentsand 3,187non-Christians.
L'OsservatoreRomano claimsthat"shouldthe Catholicorganisationswithdrawtheirsupportofthese schools,Christianitywould diewithinafewyearsin theseplaces."
Perhapsitisthisbackgroundwhichmakeshim ratherviolentlyanti-Spanish,ashisancestorswere beforehim,andIfeelhe doesthemlessthanjustice attimes.However,hedoes notfallintothetrapof carryinghisanti-Spanish sentimentstothestageof beinganti-Catholic,atleast ontheinternationalscale.
Heshows,however,an ElizabethanCornishman's dislikeforEnglishCatholics

Despitetheseshadesof prejudice, thebookisa veryvaluablecontribution tothematerialavailableon theearlydaysofEnglish colonisationinAmerica, anditshouldprovevery helpfultoanyonestudying theperiod.
