ofthedistrictsothatthe childrenmighthavethe opportunityofaCatholic education.Thattheparents areconsciousofthisunselfishnessisclearfromthe reverenceandrespectpaid totheSistersatalltimes.

Hewentontosaythatthe Sistersdidnotoftencomein forpublicpraise,butthathe feltthattheyhadcarriedout somethingthatwouldserve thecommunityformany years.Hehopedthatit wouldnotbelongbeforewe wouldsee,stretchingdown theside,thetwo.rooms neededtocompletethe building.Continuing,Mr. Agnewpraisedtheworkof Mr.J.Hunter,whohadbeen responsiblefortheplansand specificationsforthebuilders,andMr.McMahonfor thesterlingvalueofthe drivebehindallworkdone.

HisLordshipcongratulated theSistersontheacquisition ofthenewclassroomswhich weresourgentlyneeded. Theoldbuildinghadgiven longandfaithfulservice, butthetimehadcometo replaceitwithsomething better,andthenewrooms, designedaccordingtothe latesttrendsinschoolconstructionweresopleasing andattractiveinappearance thathefeltmanyofthepast PupilsofSt.Michael'swho werepresentwouldregret thattheirschooldayswere over, Whiletheoldbuildinghad disappeared,thewonderful apostolatethathadgoneon withinitswallswouldnot beforgotten.For90years theSistersofMercyhad devotedthemselvesatSt. Michael'stotheworkof Catholiceducationwiththat zeal,efficiencyandselfsacrificeforwhichtheyare renownedtheworldover. FatherHealyexpressedhis appreciationofthewonderfulchangethathadbeen effectedatSt.Michael'sin 12months.Itwouldmake lifeattheschoolmore pleasantforteachersand pupilsalike.Hewasparticularlygratefulforthe facilitiesprovidedforsayingMassattheschoolon SundaysandFirstFridays. HecomplimentedtheSisters andSt.Michael'sParents andFriendsAssociationon theirwonderfulwork,remarkingthathehadalways hadwonderfulassistance fromboththeSistersand theAssociationinparish affairs.Hehopedthatthose presentwouldbejustas generousinhelpingtodefraythedebtincurredby theSistersinbuildingthis veryfineschool.

WiththeBlessingand OfficialOpeningofthenew classroomsalong-feltdesire wasrealised.Bigroomsof moderndesignandcolour, theyincorporatemostofthe

Ni.GracetheArchbishoplastSundayexpressedthatitwashissincerewishthatevery schoolintheArchdiocesehaveaParentsand Friends'Associationworkingincollaboration andaffiliatedwiththeFederalExecutive.

HisGracewasspeaking atthesixthannualgeneral meetingoftheParentsand Friends'Association.

Amongthe74delegates toattendwereapriest,12 nunsandtwobrothers.It isthefirsttimetheteachingreligioushavebeenrepresentedatthesemeetings.

Beforeofficiallyopening themeetingHisGraceaddressedthedelegatesonthe crisisfacingCatholiceducationinAustraliawhichhe saidwasbecomingmoreapparentyearbyyear,dueto naturalincreaseofpopulationandevenmorethrough migration.

"Thishasbroughtmore problems,"HisGracesaid, "buttheyarenotinsuperableandtheyalsohavetheir blessings.ThereisamountinginterestbyCatholicparentsandCatholicsgenerally inAustraliaintheirschools.

"Anotableresulthasbeen theformingofParentsand Friends' Associations throughout amproudthatweinWesternAustraliawerefirstin thatfield.

"Itakeadvantageofthis opportunityofpayingtributetotheinitiative,zeal andefficiencyofthoseresponsibleforinaugurating thismovement.

cernedwiththepupil's growthinsanctifyinggrace, while,atthesametime,providingasgoodaneducation ascanbeobtainedinthose secularsubjectssonecessary forthefuturecitizentolive usefullywithhisfellow-men andearnadecentlivelihood.

TheCatholicSchoolisthe practicalrealisationofwhat boththeChurchandthe Catholicfamilydesireinthe fieldofeducation.Itwas thisfactwhichforcedthe pioneerBishopsofthis countrytoturntheirfaces resolutelyagainsttheEducationActof1870,whichdecreedthateducationinAustraliawastobe"secular," andurgedthemontowhat seemedtheimpossibletask ofestablishing,andmaintaining,anindependent Catholicschoolsystem.

Thisfactalsohasbeenthe inspirationofallthosewho havegiventheirlivestothis veryvitalapostolate,and whosesacrificehasmade possibletheseeminglyim-

tunitytobeassociatedwith theopeningoftheclassrooms andofferedhiscongratulationsandbestwishes.He wentontoadditwasa pleasuretovisitSt.Michael's andhewishedtheSisters everysuccessintheirwork. Hementioned,too,thevery finespiritexistingbetween themembersofthetwosystemsofeducationandexpressedthehopethatthis spiritwouldgrowanddevelopstillmore.

CouncillorAlmon,Acting Mayor,expressedpleasureat beingpresent.Hesaidit wasthefirsttimehehad seenthenewclassrooms, whichhethoughtaveryfine building.Hecongratulated theSistersonwhattheyhad achievedandagainonbehalf ofthecitizensofKalgoorlie heofferedcongratulations andbestwishes.

Mr,Fitzpatrick,President oftheParentsandFriends Association,saidinhisaddressthattheworkofthe ParentsandFriendshad

featuresofaperfectclassroomassuggestedrecently byapanelofteachers.On thesouthside,windowsfill mostoftheuppersection ofthewails;whilstonthe northside,shelteredbya verandah,verticallouvresin clearglassgivethebalance oflightandair.Special ventilationpanelsinthe ceilingsareveryeffective andtheentireroofandthe eastandwestendsofthe buildinghavebeeninsulated withverynoticeableresult. Itwasdesiredtolighten theworkofteachersoverinsuranceandAssociations shouldtrytodothis.

Thecouncilhadtaken outapolicycoverforvoluntaryworkersinschool busybeesandmothers lunchandcateringactivities. Forapremiumof£3per annumassociationscould participateinthescheme.

BesidesthedoctrineofthepriesthoodandtheEucharist,theceremonyofHolyThursdayemphasisesthe NewCommandment:"Ihaveanewcommandmentto giveyou,thatyouaretoloveoneanother;thatyour loveforoneanotherbeliketheloveIhaveborneyou." TheGospelpassagerecalls"theuttermostproofofhis love,"whichOurLordgavetheApostlesthatnight: 'HelaidHisgarmentsaside,tookatowelandputit aboutHim;thenHepouredwaterintoabasinand begantowashthefeetofhisdisciples,wipingthem withthetowel andHesaidtothem:'Ihavebeen settingyouanexample,whichwillteachyouinyour turntoduwhatIhavedonefuryou.Believeme,no slavecanhegreaterthanhismaster,noapostlegreater thanHebyWhomhewas-seat.'"

TheChurchWantsherprieststofellowthisexample bytheir1-o,m1,1eanddevotedcareofthr'firvylr, matedtothem-servants,notmasters.TheChurch

lovestore-enacttheGospelscenesandsoshesuggests toprieststhattheyre-enactthewashingofthefeetin theirparishchurchesonHolyThursdayastheycelebratetheLastSupper.Howappropriateitisandhow vividlyitimpressesOurLord'scommandonpriestand peoplealike.

Theceremonyisquitesimple:12laymen-areseated alongthefrontofthesanctuary,thepriestkneelingin frontofeachpourswaterovertheirfeetandwipes themwithatowel.TheSt.VincentdePaulmembers, apostlesofcharity,arequitewillingtotakepartinthis ritewhichpreachescharityandbrotherlyloveso vividly..Surely,weshouldnotallowshynessorembarrassment(reallyProtestantinitsorigin)todeprivethe people(andourselves)ofthisstrikinglesson.Allover theworld,andinsomeofthechurchesofourowncity, Bishopsandpriestswillbekneelingtowashthefeet oflaymen,likeChristtheirLord,servants,notmasters.

TheMassofHolyThursdayhasamoodofjoy,but withalanunderlyingfeelingofsorrow.Wearejoyful andthankfulforthegreatgiftswehavereceivedfrom Christ.TheMassvestmentsarewhite,thebellspeal joyfullyatthe"Gloria,"butafter"thatthereissilence, noorgan,nobells;amoodofsorrowcomesoverChrist's familyatthethoughtofHisapproachingsufferingand death.AfterMassthepriesttakestheciboriumcontainingthehostsforCommuniononGoodFfidayin processiontoasidechapel.Duringthenightwekeep watchbeforetheBlessedSacrament.

Duringthelastquarterofthe19thcentury, PopeLeoXIII,asBishopofRomeand SovereignPontiff,presidedovertheCatholic Church.Hewas68yearsoldwhenhemountedthethroneofPeter,anditwasgenerally thoughtthathewasdestinedforabriefregime,characterisedbyfewdeedsorpronouncementsofoutstandingmerit.

But,inGod'sprovidence,PopeLeoXIIIwastobe oneofthegreatestoftheRomanpontiffs.

Fromthedayofhiselectionin1878untilthedayof hisdeathin1903,hestoodbeforetheworldasan intellectualgenius,amanwhosemindcouldpenetrate intothedepthsofeventhemostabstruseproblemand proposeaclearanddetailedsolutionbasedonthe immutableprinciplesofhumanreasonanddivine revelation.

AppointedPapalNunciotoBelgiumat33,Monsignor PeccispentthreeyearsatBrussels;then,for32years, hewasArchbishopofPerugiainItaly.InBrussels,he dealtwithaLiberalgovernmentwhich,inapredominantlyCatholiccountry,wasstrivingmightilyto denyandimpedetherightoftheChurchtoeducate itsyouth.InItaly,too,hewasconfrontedwithasmiliar situation;aLiberalgovernmentwasincontrolofthe country.

Whileloudlyproclaiming"afreeChurchinafree State,"thesegovernmentswereinactualfactseeking toimprisonreligionwithintheconfiningwallsofthe churches.

DuringtheregimeofPopePiusIX,CardinalPecci didnotseeeyetoeyewiththepoliciesofCardinal Antonelli,whofor21yearswasPapalSecretaryof State.HisexperienceinBelgium,andhisacceptance oftheinevitableunityoftheItaliannationmadehim realisethatthestrengthoftheCatholicChurchcould notbeentrustedtotheweakmilitarypowerofthe PapalStates,nortotheunreliablegameofinternational alliances.

Ratheritsstrengthwastobefoundessentiallyand fundamentallyinitsorganisation,theworld-widesupportofitsfaithful,theprestigeofthePapacyamongall people,andaboveall,intheeternalpromiseofthe Lord:". andthegatesofhellshallnotprevail againstit ."(Mt.16,18).

Forthisreason,wecanrightlysaythatPopeLeo XIIIisthefirstofthemodernPopeswho,completely detachedfromthecareandtroubleoftemporal sovereignty,placedtheirpositionandmissionatthe soleserviceofthespiritualwelfareofmankind.Once dispossessedoftheexerciseofcivilpower,thePapacy grewtremendouslyinworldimportanceandinfluence; ingreatpart,thisisduetoPopeLeoXIII.

Totheaccomplishmentofhistask,PopeLeobrought awideandpenetratingvisionoftheproblemsofhis timeineverysphereofhumanactivityandhuman behaviour,.acourageousdeterminationtoreaffirm traditionalCatholicprinciplesanddoctrine,andthe facultyfortheprudentandtolerantapplicationofthese sameprinciplestothecontingenciesofthehistorical moment.

Inthecourseofhispontificate,LeoXIIIissuedofficial pronouncementsonawidevarietyoftopics-the Christianconstitutionofgovernments,philosophy,Holy Scripture,industrialreforms,marriage,thedutiesof citizens,amongothers.

Oneoftheproblemsthatengagedtheinterestofthis distinguishedchurchmanwashumanliberty.Itwas atimelytopic,for,aswehaveseen,therewasinhis dayapowerfulmovementthroughouttheworldfor whatitsproponentscalledliberalism-thedoctrinethat libertyconsistsinfreedomfromlaw,thedoctrinethat everymanhastherighttobelieveandtodowhathe pleases.

TheAuthoritativeMessageOfThePope Viewingsuchanotionoflibertyasdangerous,both toindividualsandtosociety,LeoXIIIspokeoutfrequentlyonthesubjectoftrueliberty.Hischief pronouncementonthesubjectisfoundinLibertas Praestantissimum(Liberty,theMostExcellentGood OfNature),whichwaspromulgatedonJune20,1888.

Inthisauthoritativemessage,thePopeexplainedin scholarlyfashiontheprecisenatureoftrueliberty.At firstsight,theconceptheproposesmayseemcontrary totheideaoffreedom.Forhedefinestruehuman liberty,notasfreedomfromlaw,butasadherenceto law-fundamentally,tothelawofGod.Hetellsusthat "theeternallawofGodisthesolestandardandrule ofhumanliberty,notonlyineachindividualman,but alsointhecommunityandcivilsocietywhichmen constitutewhenunited(LibertasPraestantissimum,The GreatEncyclicalLettersofLeoXIII,p.142).

Inotherwords,genuinefreedomconsistsinconformingone'sbeliefandconducttotheinfinitewisdomand infinitegoodnessofGod.Similarly,inthecivilsphere, truelibertyconsists,notintheabilitytoviolatethe lawsofGodorthejustlawsoftheState,butintheright toobeythem;for,theauthorityofthehumanlegislator isderivedfromthelawofGod.

PopeLeostatesthisimportanttruthinthesewords: "Therefore,thenatureofhumanliberty,howeveritbe considered,whetherinindividualsorinsociety,whether inthosewhocommandorinthosewhoobey,supposes thenecessityofobediencetosomesupremeandeternal law,whichisnootherthantheauthorityofGod, commandinggoodandforbiddingevil.Andsofarfrom thismostjustauthorityofGodovermendiminishingor evendestroyingtheirliberty,itprotectsandperfects it,fortherealperfectionofallcreaturesisfoundinthe prosecutionandattainmentoftheirrespectiveends;but thesupremeendtowhichhumanlibertymustaspire isGod"(op.cit.p.143).

Truly,thisisagloriousandsublimeconceptoftrue liberty,sodifferentfromthesuperficialnotionthat wouldmakelibertylicense,immunityfromallrestraint,

inaword,therighttobe lawless.ThePopestresses theprinciplethatonly thosewhorecognisethe Creatorwholawsmustbe obeyedaretrulyfree. Genuinelibertyisagift ofGod,andinreturnman mustrenderHimloveand service.Howclearlywas thisperceivedbythe FoundingFathersofthe UnitedStateswhenthey incorporatedintotheDeclarationofIndependenceasaself-evidenttruth-the memorablewords:"Allmen areendowedbytheir Creatorwithcertaininalienablerights,thatamong thesearelife,libertyand thepursuitofhappiness."

Whenapersonsincerely seekswhatistruewithhisintellectandwhatisgood withhiswill,heisstrivingtoperfecthimselfinthe properway,forheisaimingattheendforwhichlife hasbeengivenhim,theattainmentofGod.

Onthecontrary,toacceptintellectuallywhatisfalse ortowillwhatisevilisnotamanifestationoftrue liberty.Ifthistakesplaceingoodfaith,therewill indeedbenooffencetoAlmightyGod,theCreator;yet, anerroneouschoice,eventhoughhonestlymade,is somethingunfortunate.Butwhenthechoiceofwhatis falseorevilisfullydeliberate,thenindeedisfreedom frustrated.InthewordsofJesusChrist:"Everyone whocommitssinisaslaveofsin"(John,8:34).

Itisespeciallydeplorablewhentherulersofanation rejectthenotionofGod'slaworactindefianceofany obligationstheyowetotheCreator.Undersucha government,libertyisboundtodie.

Thisissurelyexemplifiedtodaybywhatistaking placeundercommunistrule.

LockOfRecognitionOfGodLeadsToCogs

Whythebrutality,thecrushinglaws,thetreatment ofcitizensasthoughtheywerebutcogsinamachine?

Simplyandsadly,becausethosewhoruleareatheists, andconsequentybeholdintheirsubjectsmereanimals, devoidofallrightssavethosetheirrulerswilltogrant them-rightswhichcanbewithdrawnatthemere whimofthosesamerulers.

WiselydidPopeLeodenouncesuchtyranny70years ago,longbeforetotalitariangovernmentswereestabr lished:"Thelibertyofthosewhoareinauthoritydoes notconsistinthepowertolayunreasonableand capriciousdemandsupontheirsubjects,whichwould equallybecriminalandwouldleadtotheruinofthe commonwealth;butthebindingforceofhumanlawsis this,thattheytoberegardedasapplicationsofthe eternalI:wandincapableofsanctioninganything whichishotcontainedintheeternallaw,asinthe principlesofalllaw"(op.cit.p.142).

Sometimes,itistrue,thereappearstobepeaceunder acommunistregime,butitisnotatruepeace.

Itspringsfromthehelplessnessofthosewhohave beentreatedsoinhumanlybytheirdictatorsthatthey nolongerhavethecourageorthewilltofightfor liberty.

Indemocraticcounties,freedomhasbeenjustly regardedasthebasicprincipleofthenation'slife.This isnottosaythatthecitizensofthosecountriesin generalconsiderthemselvesatlibertytospeakoract astheyplease,ortodisobeythelawsofthelandas oftenastheycanevadepunishment.

Andaslongasthisunderstandingoftrueliberty prevails,theycanjustlybeacclaimedas"thelands ofthefree."

Itisdisturbing,however,torealisethatthereare todaysomewhoseembentondestroyingtruelibertyeitherthelibertyofindividualcitizensbyinducing themtoviolateGod'slawthroughsalaciouswritings, obsceneshows,thebadexampleofloosemanners,or thelibertyofindividualnationsthroughdishonestyin politicallifeorevensubversiveactivitiesagainstestablishedfreedom-lovinggovernments-andallthisinthe nameofliberty!

Entirelyappropriatetosuchpersonsarethewordsof PolioLeoregardingtheso-calleiliberalsofhisday: "Theydenytheexistenceofanydivineauthorityto whichobedienceisdue,andproclaimthateveryman isthelawtohimself"(op.cit.p.145).AndthePope goesontopointoutthatwheneversuchanattitude predominates,discordandtyrannyinevitablyfollow.

TrueLibertyIsTheFollowingOfTruth

In.regardtofreedomasappliedtoreligiousbelief andworship,PopeLeoheldconsistentwithhisteachingonlibertyingeneral,thattruelibertyisexercised onlywhenapersonacceptsandpractiseswhatistrue aboutGodandHislaw,accordingtothedictatesof reasonanddivinerevelation.

However,thisd"esnotmeanthateithertheCatholic ChurchoraCatholicStatemayusecoercivemeasuies toinducenon-CatholicstobecomeCatholics.

Thisquotationisoftenrepeatedtoprovethatthe CatholicChurchexpectstheStatetobeintolerantof religionsotherthantheCatholic.

However,thosewhoarguealongthisline,usuallyfail toquotethesewordsofthesamePopeLeo:"The Church,indeed,deemsitunlawfultoplacethevarious formsofdivineworshiponthesamefootingasthe truereligion,butdoesnot,onthataccount,condemn thoserulers,who,forthesakeofprocuringsomegreat good,orofhinderingsomegreatevil,allowpatiently customorusagetobeakindofsanctionforeachkind ofreligionhavingitsplaceintheState"(Immortale Dei,TheGreatEncyclicalLettersofLeoXIII,p.127).

PopePiusXIIdevelopedthesameideawitheven greaterclarityinhisaddresstotheUnionofItalian CatholicJuristsonDecember6,1953:"Theaffirmation: Religiousandmoralerrormustbeimpededwhenitis possible,becausetolerationoftheminitselfisimmoral, isnotvalidabsolutelyandunconditionally.

Thus,inpractice,theChurchwillnotinterfere,and hasnotinterfered,inlocalsituationswheretheseparationbetweenChurchandStatemaybeconsideredthe greaterandmoregeneralgood.

Inconsideringfreedomasappliedtoreligiousbelief andworship,itiswelltoremindourselvesthatthevery conceptofcompleteseparationbetweenChurchand Stateisarelativelymodernidea.Evensomeofthe largestProtestantdenominationswerebornoutofa stricterandmorenationalisticinterpretationofaclose relationshipbetweenreligionandthecivilpower.

Inthepracticalfieldofrelationswithcivilpowers, theCatholicChurchshows,withreciprocalinternational agreementscalledConcordats,aconsiderablevarietyof provisionsinparticiaarquestions,dependingonlocal traditions,customsandpractices.Infact,itisextremely difficulttodefinetheneatlineofdemarcationbetween thedomainoftheChurchandthattheState.Actually, eveninsometraditionallyandpredominantlyCatholic countries,nopreferentialjuridicalrecognitionisgranted totheCatholicChurch.

Thus,inbrief,wehaveconsideredtheteachingon theimportantsubjectofhumanlibertypropoundedby oneofthegreatPopesoftheCatholicChurch,whowas knownas"LumendeCaelo"-"LightfromHeaven."

Hismessage,aswehaveseen,wasnotcontingenton theparticulartimeinwhichhelived.Itwasthe logicalconclusionfromthefundamentaltruthsofreason andfaith,applicabletoeverygeneration.

CatholicsinpartsoftheseSeesstillinGermanyare undertheauthorityofVicarsCapitularresidingin Berlin,GoerlitzandOsnabrueck.

ThedifferentpoliticalsituationsinEastandWest Germanyhaveledtodifferentdevelopmentsinthe religiouslifeofthetwoareas.Churchactivityinthe communist-ruledDemocraticRepublicisconfined mainlytoworshipandthestruggleagainstatheistic materialism,whileintheWestCatholicsarefreeand canhavepracticalinfluenceinthecountry'scultural, socialandpoliticallife.

ReligiousDivision

TheolderdivisioninGermanlifeisthereligiousone. Germanytodayhasabout73millionpeople:53 millionintheFederalRepublic,2,200,000intheWestern sectorofBerlinandapproximately18millionincommunistEastGermanyandeasternBerlin.

Catholicsaccountforabout45percentoftheinhabitantsoftheFederalRepublic.while51percentofthe peoplethereareProtestants.IntheEast,however,only 12percentofthepeopleareCatholicsand82percent areProtestants.

Theintenseinterestmanyreligiousorganisationstake inthiscountry'ssocialandculturallife-andparticularlytheunionofWestGermanCatholicsand ProtestantsinoneChristian-orientedpolticalparty,the ChristianDemocraticUnion-keepsCatholicsherein closetouchwithinter-faithproblems.

ShiftsOfPopulation

Inter-faithunderstandingwasputtoaseveretestby theenormouspopulationshiftsthattookplaceinthe yearsfollowingthewar,when12millionGermansincludingaboutfivemillionCatholics-wereexpelled fromareaslosttothenationandfromneighbouring foreigncountries.AboutsevenmillionGermanswere expelledfromterritoriesplacedunderPolishadministrationandfivemillionfromPolanditself,Hungary, CzechoslovakiaandRumania.Eightmillionofthe expellees,including3,600,000Catholics,cametoWest Germany.Fourmillion,ofwhom1,400,000were Catholics,wenttoEastGermany.Sincethewarabout twomillionGermansfromthecommunisteasternzone havealsocometothewest.

Asaresultofthesemasspopulationmovements,large Protestantminoritiessettledinwhathadearlierbeen exclusivelyCatholicareasandmanyCatholicsmoved intoProtestantdistricts.

Asinthepast,abouttwo-thirdsofGermany's CatholicsstillliveinBavariaandtheRhineland,while thenorthandeastremainProtestantstrongholds.But therehasbeenvastincreasesincethewarinthe Catholicpopulationoftheso-called"diaspora"areas, regionswhichformerlyhadanoverwhelmingProtestant majority.

Asaresult,theNewEngland-bornmissionary, nowstationedinthePeruvianjungle,lostoutinhis tryforthebigprizeinLima's"ScalaRegina"giveawayshow. The30-year-oldFranciscan,whocomesfrom Manchester,NewHampshire,intheUnitedStates, isparishpriestofoneofthefiveparishesofthe VicariateApostolicofRequena,densejungleland attheheadwatersoftheAmazon.Hisparishcovers. some22,000squaremiles,morethantwicethesize ofhisnativeNewHampshire.

TheblondmissionarycameherefromtheU.S. in1949tojointhePeruvianprovinceoftheFranciscans.HelearnedSpanishandstudiedatFranciscanfriaryatOcapa,11,000feetupintheAndes, andwasassignedtothejunglethedayofhis ordinationinJanuary,1957.

AsaPeruvianfriarwithoutaccesstothenormal missionaryaidchannelsintheU.S.,FatherGagnon jumpedatachancetoearnsomemoneyforhis missionontelevision.

THESECONDtaskwastoget108monkeysinto thetelevisionstudio.Thiswaseasy.FatherGagnon brought120ofthem.

THETHIRDtestconsistedofblowingouta lightedcandlefromadistanceofabout28feet.The priestpersuadedanairlinetoflyinthreemembers ofoneofhistribes,theYahuas,freeofcharge,and oneofthenativesextinguishedthecandlewitha blowgun.ThatwasO.K.

THEFOURTHtestwastomaketendifferent kindsofclocksringinsuccession.That'swhere FatherGagnonfailed.Thecuckooclockcuckooed threesecondsearly.

SoFatherGagnondidn'twintheA326prize. Butpeoplewhowerewatchingtheshowstarted rightinbesiegingtheTVstudiowithphonecalls sayingtheyweresendingcash.Otherscameto stationinpersontomakecontributionsofeither cashorcommodities.Thegiftscontinuedthenext day,andLimabusinessfirmspromisedvarious kindsofequipmentandsupplies.

Theeducationofour peopleintheirpositionand claimsineducationwas suggestedsothatthey coulddiscussourpositionin educatingAustralianchildrenwithnon-Catholicsand peoplewhowereinclined toopposeourjustclaims.
