"Amanandawomanmarrybecausethey loveeachother.But,theymarryinorder thattogethertheymaybuildsomethingother thanthemselves-thefamily.Theirglory istosharetogether,astheministersofGod's omnipotence,inthemakingofnewimmortal beings."

Thisquotationwasthe themeofatalkon"ChristianMarriage,"givenbythe Rt.Rev.Mgr.E.Sullivan, attheApplecrossCanaConferencelastweek.

Theprimarypurposeof marriage,Mgr.Sullivan remindedanattentiveaudience,wastheprocreationof marriage;thesecondary purpose,mutualloveand consolation.Heemphasised, however,thatthesecondary endofmarriagewasbound upwiththeprimaryend.

"Thewholeofmarriage shouldbetheexpressionof thismutuallove,"hesaid.

"GodhasannexedtoHis planfortheprocreationof newlifetheattractionof thesexes,andthemost completeexpressionofmutualhumanlove."

Mgr.Sullivanwentonto quotefromtheEncyclicalof PopePiusXIonChristian Marriage:". conjugal faith, mostaptlycalledby St.Auguseine"thefaithof chastity,"bloomssnorefreely, morebeautifullyand morenoblywhenitisrooted inthatmostexcellentsoil: Theloveofhusbandand wife, whichpervadesallthe dutiesofmarriedlife, and holdsprideofplacein Christianmarriage."
