Whilenon-CatholicsalloverN.S.W.andinmany partsofVictoriaandQueenslandwerereadingthis invitation,FatherWhite,NationalDirectorofthe newly-foundedCatholicEnquiryCentre,explained theschemefromthepulpitofSt.Mary'sCathedral, Sydney.Hissermonatthe11o'clockMasswas broadcastoverStation2SM.
Theadvertisementinvitednon-Catholicsofall creedsandofnonetowritetotheCatholicEnquiry Centreforabrochuregivingdetailsofapostalcourse ofweeklylessonsontheCatholicChurch,which wouldbesenttothemfreeandinabsoluteconfidence theywerefurtherinterested.
Thescheme,thefirstofitskindeverattemptedin thiscountry,hasbeenlaunchedbytheCardinal, ArchbishopsandBishopsinanattempttointroduce theteachingsoftheCatholicChurchtomillionsof Australianfamiliesforthefirsttime.
The"Sun-Herald,"inwhichthefirstofthisseries ofadvertisementsappearedisreadbymorethana millionpeopleeachweek.
Entitled"TheTruthabouttheCatholicChurch," andsetagainstabackgroundofapriestsayingMass theadvertisementread:"Thisisapictureofapriest sayingMass.Thoughperhapsstrangetoyouitis perfectlyfamiliartomillionsofCatholicseverywhere.
