Therewasafinetoneand highstandardintheFremantleschools-atoneand standardthatwererecognisedandappreciatedby theinspectorsfromthe EducationDepartmentwho examinedtheschoolsannually.
Itwassometimessaid, theArchbishopcontinued, thatCatholicschoolswere notuptostandard;thatthe nunhadnomeansofadvancinginherstudies;that shewaspermittedtoread onlythosespiritualbooks givenforherprivatedevotionorthetextbooksshe usedinclass.
Consequently,sheknew noliteratureotherthan thatwhichshereadbefore enteri,ngtheconvent.She wasrepresentedasagenerationbehindtheage,completelyoutoftouchwiththe thoughtsandsentiments actuatingthosewithwhom shewascharged.
That,HisGracecontinued,wasutterlyfalse.Those whowereeducatedbythe nunscouldgive"thelie" tothatgroundlessassertion,fortheyfoundinthe conventinwhichtheywere educatedwomenofculture andrefinement,womenwho hadmadeseriousstudies

Electionresultshererecallthatlastmonthinthe AostaregionofnorthernItalyanotherlocalpolitical 'arty,theValdostaineUnion'salsoenteredintoa coalitionwiththeCommunistsandoustedaChristianDemocraticGovernmentfromoffice.Reasonfor theValdostaineUnion'saction,asfortheChristian SocialUnionhere,waspartlytoattainagreater degreeoflocalautonomy.
Whileremainingthelargestsinglepartyinthe90seatSicilianlegislature,theChristianDemocrats droppedthreeofthe37seatstheyhadheldintheold chamberelectedin1055.Bothoftheotheroppositionparties-theDemocraticSocialistsandLiberals -alsolostseats.
TheChristianDemocrats,nevertheless,areclaimingsuccesssincetheywonabout40,000morevotes thanin1955andretainedtheirapproximateproportionofthetotalpopularvote-38percent.Theparty loststrengthinthelegislaturebecauseofanewformulaofattottingseatsaccordingtoaproportional representationsystem.
