R.:Inhisbook(page88). EmmettMcLoughlinsays morethanthatHitlerwas aCatholic.Hesaysthathe was"rearedasaCatholic," andthatiswhollyuntrue.
ThoughHitlerwasbaptisedasaCatholic,hewas nevermorethannominally aCatholic.Inhisyouthhe ledamoreorlessvagabond kindoflife,neitherknowing theCatholicreligion,nor practisingit.
Bythetimehecameto powerinGermany, hehad repudiatedtheCatholic Churchaltogether, boasted thathewoulddestroyit togetherwithallChristian Churches, andsaidhisonly religionwasthatofGermannationality, basedon thebloodandsoilofthe Germanpeople.
AccordingtotheCanon LawsoftheCatholicChurch hewasself-excommunicated bytheveryfact.Heknew it,andeverybodyelseknew it.

Q.:Dothemembersofthese OrdersthinkthatSt. BenedictandSt.Francis erredintherecognitionof thePrimacyofthePope?
R.:Themembersofthese AnglicanReligiousOrders are,ofcourse,allexceedingly"HighChurch"in theiroutlook.
Theyadopt, therefore, theadvancedAnglo-Catholicviewpoint,namely,that thePopecertainlyhasthe "Primacy of Honour" amongalltheBishopsofthe world, butnot"Primacyof Jurisdiction."
Whilsttheyregardthe Popewiththeutmostrespect,therefore,theyrefuse tosubmittohisauthority. TheirattitudestoSt.BenedictandSt.Franciswould differaccordingtotheirinterpretationofhistory.
Maintaining, astheydo, thatthedoctrineoftheuniversaljurisdictionofthe PopewasanunjustifieddevelopmentintheChurch duringtheMiddleAges. theywouldsaythatthe13th centurySt.FrancisofAssisi wasundoubtedly, though unconsciously, inerror, sinceitwasaccepted throughoutthewholeof WesternChristendom gin his day.
Theydeny,however,that theuniversaljurisdictionof thePopewasanestablished doctrineasearlyasthe sixthcentury,when Benedictlived,St.Benedict, therefore,throughnoparticularchoiceofhisown, wasnotsubjecttothaterror,whichhadjustnotyet developed.
