Christianity,likeeveryotherreligioninChina,is tobeslowlydestroyedbythelingerngDeathofa ThousandCuts.The"freedom"whichsomeProtestantmissionsenjoyhasnoguaranteeofpermanence. TheycanbedislodgedwhenevertheRedBureauof ReligiousAffairsdecidestodislodgethem,oneata time,oralltogether.
TheattackontheCatholicChurchhasbeentwopronged-firstlybydirectpersecution,andsecondly byfosteringthebogus"ChinesePatrioticCatholic Church,"subsidisedbytheCommunistsforthepurposeofsowingdissensionamongCatholicsandspreadingtheideasofMarxistAtheismthroughpretended "religious"channels.
OnFormosaIslandIinterviewedsixdifferent Catholicmissionarieswhohadbeenimprisoned,torturedandfinallyexpelledfromthemainlandofChina bytheCommunists.
Theirtestimonyleavesnodoubtofthenatureand ferocityofthepersecutiontheyenduredfortheir faith.
Theirexperiencesweretypicaloftheordealssufferedbymorethan6,000Catholicmissionariesincludingbishops,priests,clericalandlaybrothers andnuns-whohavebeenexpelledfromChinaby theRedssince1949.

BornatMonacoin1897,hewasordainedasa priestin1922,andappointedApostolicDelegateto ChinainJuly,1946.HisresidencewasatNanking, thecapitaloftheRepublicofChina.Heremained thereathispostaftertheNationalistGovernment movedtoFormosain1949.
