Theextensionstothe churchhavebeencarried outingraniteandthecompletedbuildingiscruciform.

Theoriginalbuilding, erectedduringthepastorate oftheRt.Rev.Mgr.E. Collins,wasalsoingraniteandwasopenedbythe lateArchbishopClune,in 1932,debtfree.

Mundaringwaserected asaseparateparishin 1949,withtheRev.T.Linnaneasfirstparishpriest. Ahandsomegraniteschool waserectedandaconvent acquiredfortheSistersof St.JosephoftheApparition.

ThefoundingofaCatholicschoolledtoanotable increaseintheCatholic populationforwhomthe churchwastoosmall.

Thepicturehashada long,hardstruggletoreach thepublicanditsissuance intimeforthenational feastdaythismonthisfelicitous.

Thestoryofthepicture goesbackto1924,whenit wasreproducedinsepia tone.Inthesepiaoriginal, fromwhichtheprintswere reproduced,thestudyof TheDivineChildandHis Motheristhatofthepainting,byLorenzonein1868, intheBasilicaofMary, HelpofChristians,Valdocco Milan.Tothisstudywas addedtheAustralasianatmosphere.

CardinalMorangavethe titleof"AustraliaDay"to May24,whentheGovernmentofhisdaydeclined thetitleforJanuary26.At therequestofBishopJohn CarrollofLismore,who, beingacontemporaryof HisEminence,hadpersonal recollectionoftheCardinal'smindconcerningMay 24,thetitle"AustraliaDay" wasusedonthe1924,pictures.

Itwasomittedfromlater printingsbecauseitrestrictedtheareaofOurLady's PatronageandtheGovernmentwasnowcallingJanuary26th"AustraliaDay." Byanoversight,thetwelve starsoftheApocalypse wereomittedfromthese 1924pictures. Thedemandforthese sepiapictureswasremarkable,andinresponseto manyrequests,itwasdecidedtoreproducethework incolour.

AnEnglishartist,residing inAustralia,wascommissionedtoexecuteacoloured workbasedonthesepia

work,withinstructionsto makethefeaturesandcolouringAustralasian.

Itisfromthispainting, completedin1927,thatthe presentpicureshavebeen reproduced,andthefollowingwillexplainwhytheir appearancehasbeendelayedforthirtyyears.

AleadingAustralian printercontractedtohave colouredprintsreadyin timeforMay24th,1928. Thepictureswerenotready bythecontracteddate,nor didtheysubsequentlyappear,despitemanyyears spentbytheprinterincostlyexperiments. Investigationshowedthat theworkcouldnotbedone byanyprinterinAustralia, soeffortsweremade,by correspondence,tohaveit doneinEuropeorAmerica.

Correspondenceoverseveralyearshavingprovedunsatisfactory,apersonalvisit overseasseemedtobethe onlysolution,butthishad tobepostponedforfinancialreasons,fortheproject hadalreadyinvolvedgreat expense.

ThencameWorldWarII, andthematterwasnecessarilyshelvedduringthe waryearsandintheunsettledperiodthatfollowed.
