Theenthusiasmofthe performancewassuchthat astheeveningwentonthe enjoymentincreased;one cannotspeakoftheevening withoutmentioningtheevidentpleasureandexcitementthatthechorusexperiencedinsingingthis tributetothestoryofthe Nativity.

Despitethedifficultyof someofthechorusworktherhythmsof"Allwelike sheephavegoneastray," gavethemalemembersof thechorussometrying moments-theoveralleffectandworkofthechorus wasatributetotheworkof Mr.CallawayandthecooperationoftheUniversity ChoralSociety.

Heundertooklegalstudiesandwascalledtothe Irishbarin1845.Hepractisedlawforsevenyears until1852,when,likemanyanotheryoungIrishman ofhistime,hecametotheAustraliancolony,where hewasadmittedasalawyertothelocalbar.

WithhimtheretravelledanotheryoungIrishman namedPatrickAlfredJennings,latertobecomefirst CatholicPremierofNewSouthWalesandoneofthe greatestCatholicmenoftheageintheearlyAustraliancolony.
