Manila,May14:ThePhilippineHouseofRepresentativeshaskilledforthissessionaBilltorequirethat thebiographyandworksof awell-knownanti-clerical writershallbeincludedin thecurriculaofallschools.
Therecanbenoobjection totheremovalofthecorneaofacorpseandits transplantationtotheeyeof alivingperson, thePope said, becausetothelivingit constitutesthecorrectionof adefectandtothecorpse thereisnoquestionofthe violationofarightorthe deprivationofaphysical asset.
However,hecontinued,it shouldbemadeknownto thepublic,especiallytothe blindwhomightharbour "utopianhopes"ofregaining theirsight,thatthechances ofasuccessfuloperationare small.
ThePopedistinguished betweenautograft, the graftingofaperson'stissue fromonepartofhisbodyto anotherpartofhisown body;homograft, thegraftingoftissuefromonelivingbeingtoanotherofthe samespecies, andheterograft, thegraftingoftissue fromabeingofonespecies toabeingofadifferent species.
Heterograftisnotalways wrong, thePontiffsaid. But, accordingtothecaseand thetissueororgantobe transferred, itcouldbe morallycondemnable.
Incitinganexample, the Popesaidthatthegrafting ofsexualglandsfroman animaltoahumanwouldbe immoral, butthetransplantingofacorneafromanonhumantoahumanwould involvenomoraldifficulty iftheoperationwerebiologicallypossibleandmedicallyindicated.
Inregardtothetransfer ofpartsofthebodybetween livinghumanbeings, the HolyFathercondemnedthe notionthatmanshouldor cangivepartofhisbodyto "humanity."
ThePopedenouncedthe "morallyerroneousopinion thattakesshapeinthemind ofmanandconsistsInplacingthehumancorpseonan equalplanewiththatofthe animal."

Ontheotherhand, the HolyFathercontinued, itis equallytruethatmedical scienceandtheformationof futuredoctorsrequirede- tailedknowledgeofthe humanbodyandthat corpsesarenecessaryasobjectsofstudy.
Thiscannotbecondemned, hesaid, andtheactof anindividualinleavinghis bodytoscienceforuseful andjustifiablereasonsis morallyirreproachableand evennoble.
However, thePopewarned,"itwouldnotbefair thatthebodiesofpoor patientsinpublichospitals andmedicalcentresshould bedestinedasamatterof coursetotheserviceof medicineandsurgery."
"Publicauthorityandthe lawsconcerningthetreatmentofcorpses,"thePope concluded,"mustingeneral respectthesamemoraland humanconsiderations,since theyarebasedonhuman natureitself
