Rev.E.J.Power,P.P.,in introducingHisLordship, saidhewelcomedBishop Raffertybecauseitwashis firstvisittoCarlislesince hehadbeenelevatedtothe sublimedignityoftheepiscopate.

HeassuredHisLordship thathehadtheprayersand goodwishesofthepriest andpeopleoftheparish thatAlmightyGodwould sparehimasAuxiliary BishoptoHisGracefor manyafruitfulyear,to guard,toguideandrule overtheChurchofGod.

Hewasveryhappytobe abletosay,continuedFather Power,thatwhateverhad beenaccomplishedinthe parishinfouryearshad beendueentirelytothe magnificentco-operationof generousandloyalpeople.

Hencetheycouldsay withacertainamountof legitimateandpardonable pridethatafternoonthat theparishofCarlislehad comeofage.

Theyhadtheparish churchwhichwasoncea school-church.Theirchurch wassufficientforthetime beingtomeettheneedsof Carlisle-Kewdale.

Theyhadtheparish schooltocaterfortheneeds ofthelittleones,backedup bythefactthattheyhad aclaimontheregional schoolinEastVictoriaPark wheretheirboysweretraining.

Theyrealisedfullythatit wastheirdutytoinstruct thelittleonestoloveand. serveAlmightyGod,topreparethemsothatwhen theyleftschooltheycould taketheirplaceinthe world,tobecomegood,GodlovingcitizensintheCommonwealth.

FatherPowerwelcomed hisbrotherpriestsfromall overthemetropolitanarea, especiallytheMaristFathers comeamong them labourforthe honour dgloryofGod andthesalvationofsouls.

Inashortspaceoftime

FatherPowerhaddoneremarkablework,spiritually andmaterially,inthe parish.Evidenceofhis extraordinaryzea1 and energywastobeseenin thefineparishplantwhich hehadbuiltup,HisLordshipsaid.

Thoselatestadditionsto theschoolwouldensurethat everychildinthedistrict wouldhavetheopportunityofaCatholiceducation, andatthesametimethe building,whichhadgiven longandfaithfulserviceas achurch-school,couldnow beusedexclusivelyasa church-averydevotional andserviceablechurch, thankstotheextensiveremodellingandrenovations thathadbeendone.

FatherPowerhadwell saidthattheparishhadnow comeofage,continuedthe Bishop-itwasnowfully equipped.ButFatherPowerhadnotbeensatisfied withmaterialdevelopment andequipment.

Theyhadthereaparish ashighlyorganisedasany intheArchdiocese.There wereamplefacilitiesforattendingHolyMassandthe receptionoftheSacraments; theyhadthesocietiesand sodalities,theLegionof

picturedarrivingat P.

Maryandtheyouthmovements.

Therewasnoaspectof parishlifethathadbeen overlookedorneglected.All thathadbeenachieved,of course,onlywiththeloyal andgenerousco-operation ofthepeopleofthedistrict.

Thepastorhadledand thepeoplehadfollowed. "Itismy concludedferventprayer," HisLordship, "thatthisgrandspiritof loyalco-operationofthe peoplewiththeirpriestwill continue.Ithasbeenthe sourceofabundantgraces andblessingsinthepast andwillbesointhe future."

Sir,-Anorthodoxeconomist,orany"economistof note,"wouldnotbeaccepted assuch,orreceivepublicity unlesshetaughtcertainspecificdogmasthathavemade himthelaughingstockofthe world.

Thefirstisthatallmoney mustcomeintoexistenceas adebttothebankingsystem, tobevestedandcancelled attheirdiscretion. Berlin,Feb.7.-AuxiliaryBishopAnthony BaraniakofGnieznowasmovedfroma CracowprisontotheSalesianmonasteryin MarszalkinearPoznanbythePolishReds attheendofDecember,accordingtoreports reachinghere. BesidesBishopBaraniak, nineotherPolishBishops havebeenarrestedbythe
