Thereligiouslifeshould behappy,asitisacasting asideoftheobstacleswhich holdbackthesoulfrom God.
Thethreevowsofreligiousprofessionareasymbol ofthethreenailswhich fastenedOurLordtothe Cross,andshouldserveto detachusfromtheworld andattachustoHim.
Inillustrationofthe significanceofthereligious vocation,thepreacherrecalledanunusualstatueof theLittleFlowerofJesus atthePropagandaCollege inRome.
Inthisstatuethesaint appearedtobecladinsilken garments,whichstreamout behindherasshehastens forwardtohergoal.Her eyesarefixedstraight ahead,andinherhandsshe carriesabook,whichis probablythebookofthe NewTestamentbywhich shehaddirectedherlife fromherearliestyears.

TheRoosevelt-Litvinov Agreementof1933,"Le Courrier"pointedout,providedforanAmerican priesttoserveAmerican CatholicsinMoscow.The Sovietshavenevergiven theAmericanpriestfilling thatpostfullfreedomto travelfreelythroughoutthe country.
Negotiations following FatherBissonnette'sexpulsionledtothegrantingof visastobothFatherDion andArchbishopBoris,the dailynoted.
TheUnitedStates,however,declaredthatthe Sovietprelatewouldbeexpectedtorestricthisactivitiestothoseparallelingthe ministryoftheAmerican

ThePontiff's6,000-wordmessagewasparticularly outspokeninwarningagainstthe"mostdangerous superstition"thatproductioninsuresmankind'ssalvation.Increasingproductioncanneverserveas aneffectivebarrieragainstspreadingCommunism. thePopesaid,becausethisfallacyissharedbyboth Communistsandnon-Communists.

Buttheknowledgeweacquirethereisfullof spiritualsignificanceandprofit.TheGospelgives usapictureofthesemenwhoweresoearnestin seekingChristthatnohardshipcouldbaulktheir quest.FromastudyofthetraditionsoftheEast, and,possibly,also,fromsomeknowledgetheymay havehadoftheprophetsofIsrael,theyhadconcludedthatthetimewasathandforthecoming intothisworldofaDivineChildWhowasthe Saviouroftheworld.Butwemustnotsuppose thattheywereledonbypurelyhumanmotivesand considerations,forGodneverwithholdsHisaidfrom thosewhotrulyseekHim.Godwasdirectingthese wisemen,andpreparingthemtobethefirstamong theGentilestoworshiptheWordIncarnate.Because theyrespondedtothisdirection,theyatlast"found theChild,withMary,HisMother."
Inthatmoment,theyhadaforetasteofheaven. InthelittleChild,cradledinthearmsofMary, theyrecognisedtheirGodandSaviour.Perhaps theythoughttofindagreatkinginabeautiful palace,butwitheyesenlightenedbygrace,theysaw inthesehumblesurroundingstheKingofeternal glory.Theirlongsearchingwasatanend,andtheir heartswerefilledwithajoynotofearth.
