WHYTHEINDUSTRIAL GROUPS?
TheA.L.P.Industrial Groupsweresetuptoprovidealawful,constitutional meansofcombattingCommunisminAustralia.
In1946theCommunists controlledpracticallyevery keytradeunioninAustralia. Undertheircontrolwere 400,000workersandunion fundsamountingto£600,000whichintoday'scurrencywouldbeabout £1,500,000.

Thisstrike,whichmany holdsmashedtheChino' LabourGovernment,was predictedbytheFederal PresidentoftheCommunistParty,Mr.R.Dixon, monthsbeforeittookplace.

WHATHAVETHE GROUPSDONE?
TheA.L.P.Industrial Groupshavemanyachievementstotheircredit.
Forinstance,theyhave broughtaboutthereaffiliationofover100,000 unionistswiththeLabour Party.
Bytheirsuccessinthis mattertheGroupspreventedtheCommunistsfrom carryingouttheiraimof disaffiliatingunionsfrom theLabourPartyandaffiliatingthemwiththeCommunistParty.(Thisaimof theCommunistsisexplainedinCommunistReview, 1948.)
TheIndustrialGroups havealsocombattedthe alternativeUnityPlanof theCommunistParty,althoughnotso
