Thatparadoxbestillustratesthesortofpeace GodhasinmindforHisfriends.Itwillrarelybe atranquillityofexternalthings.Indeed,themore closelyamanconformshiswholepersonalitytothe loveofGodthemorebitterislikelytobethe outwardcircumstanceofhislife.

Noristhismerelyamatterofdeductivereasoning. ItisacentralpartofaDivinepledge.

OnthenightbeforeHedied,ChristOurLord saidtoHisApostles:"Intheworldyoushallhave distress.Buthaveconfidence.Ihaveovercome theworld."HencetheheritageoftheCrossand ofuttertrustinChristhavepassedtotheChurch ineachgenerationandwilldosototheendof time.

Ingeneral,thecauseofPeron'sattackseemsto havebeenthepropagationofPapalsocialprinciples whichmustnecessarilycutacrossdictatorialambitions.Whatheresentedinparticularwas"the infiltration"oftheclergyintothelabourunions. ForPeron'sgreatstrength,politicallyanyway,isin theunions.Thatisthelegacywhichhislate remarkablewifelefthim.

Buttherearesymptomsappearingwhichbeliethe outwardseemingofArgentinianpolitics.Itwould appearthatPeron,whilerulingoverapredominantlyCatholic(ifneglected)peopleisfindingthe inflexiblesocialmoralitydemandedbyCatholicism irksome.

BATTLEFORTHEHOMEANDSCHOOL

TherearepointerswhichindicatethatPeronis aimingatamorepermanentholdonhisposition bythesecularisationoftheschoolsandbyexperimentationwithdivorce.Thosetwoavenues-the homeandtheschool-aretheprimarysourcesof formation,forgoodorforill.TheChurchhas recognisedthattruthfromthebeginning-andso, unhappily,haveherenemies.

Thebattleofourtimes,fortheheartsandminds ofmen,isjoined;ononesidearetheforcesof atheisticCommunismandagnosticsecularism;on theotherthefollowersoftotalChristianity.It wouldbestupidityonourpartnottorealisethat theseculareducationsystem,byitsavoidanceof God,perfectlypreparestheyoungforCommunism withitsdenialofGod.Agnosticismdividesfrom atheismbydegreeandnotbykind.

WhatisbeingattemptedinArgentinaishappeningalsoinBelgium,anothernationpredominantly Catholic.HeretheattackisnotfromaFascist dictatorbutfromaSocialist-Liberalgovernment. Butthethreatisfundamentallythesame-against theschools.

Belgiumunhappilyisriddenbyasmallclassof professionalpoliticians,Masonicandanti-clerical,of thesametypewhichcontrolledPortugal,Spainand Mexicountilcomparativelyrecentlyandretarded theirprogressuntilrevolutionoverthrewthem.

Theytellofthegoodconditionsprevailinghere-the liberaltobaccosupply,the goodfood,payforany workdone,goodclothes. regularpictureshowsandso forth.Asaresult,inrecentyears,somenatives haveactuallycomeforward askingvisitingdoctorsif theycouldbetakento ChannelIslandfortreatment.Thiswasanunheard-ofthingtenyears ago.
