Altogether86young peoplepackedthebusto °opacity,butcrowdingdid notseemtodetractfrom theobvioushilarityofthe party.Apartfromthe numberinthebus,there wereseveralcarloads.

ReportingatotalCatholicpopulationof989,847for thecurrentYear,thestatisticsreleasedbytheInternuncio'sofficerevealanincreaseofover350,000over the1942totalof636,766.Thesameproportionof growthwasnotedin1942overthe1932totalof 353,250. DecadesOfStruggle

Thefirst20yearsofthe ociety'sexistencewerea periodofstruggleandtrial. Intheyear1924,despite theuntiringeffortsofthe executive,thesociety"was indebttosuchanextent thattherewasseriousfeat' lestthesocietymighttr compelledtosuspendits postolicwork."

However,underthecounselandguidanceofthe president,ArchbishopMannix,Rev.Dr.Beovich initiatedasuccessfulforwardmovement,whichconsolidatedthesociety'swork.

Hisenergyandideas wereproducingpractical results,whenhewascornielledtoresignbecauseof isincreasingdutiesas directorofCatholicEducationintheArchdioceseof Melbourne.

Catechisms,whicharepublishedintwoforms,aStandardandaPrimerCatechism, havetotalled 1,280,000.

Asharpupwardtrendin A.C.T.S.salesoccurredin themiddlethirties,aperiod whichconcidedwiththe beginningsofCatholic ActioninAustralia.Over amillionandahalfpamphletsweresoldinthefive years,1935-1940. Thewaryearsgavearemarkable stimulusto A.C.T.S.sales,especially throughbulkbuyingfor distributiontothearmed forces.From1940to1945, overthreemillionanda halfpamphletsweredistributed(8,628,436).
