BasicConsiderations

(1)Medicalmoralitymust baseitselfonBeingand Nature,sinceallmoral norms,includingthoseof medicine,"proceednecessarilyfromcorresponding ontologicalprinciples.From thisderivesthemaxim,"Be thatwhichyouare."

(2)Medicalmorality mustconformtoreasonand purpose,andbeorientedaccordingtoascaleofvalues. Medicalmoralitylives,not inthings,butinmen,persons,doctors,theirdecisions, personalities,conceptsand therealizationofvalues. Thedoctormustaskhimself: Whatdoesthisactioninvolve?Whatisitsjustification?Whatisthevaluein itself,inpersonalrelations, insociety,etc.?

(3)Medicalmoralitymust berootedinthetranscendental.Manmaydisposeof orsuppresswhathasbeen establishedbyman,butnot sowithnature."Moralduty doesnotdependuponthe pleasureofman."
