Thethreemaineffects are:

(a)Moraleffects.

(b)Intellectualeffects.

Anotherseriousmoral challengerevealedinthese publicationsarisesfromover emphasisoncrime, especiallycrimesofviolence, andtheportrayalofmatters ofhorrorandgrosscruelty.

Regardingcrime,itis feltthatitsglorificationhas led,orisleading,tothe evolutionofanattitudeof defianceanddisobedience toauthority,whoselogical terminationisanarchy,and thedestructionofthefabric ofcivilisedcommunitylife.

Underitsinfluence,the lawsofcitizenship,inboth theirmoralandcivilreference,areliabletobedisregardedbyageneration whosemindsandideals havebeensaturatedby crimeliterature. Ithasbeenfoundthatthe mostprominentreactions frompublicationsdealing withmattersofhorrorand crueltyhasbeenthesuccessfuldevelopmentofasadisticoutlookonlife,reviving theun-Christianphilosophy that"theweakestmustgo tothewall."

(b)IntellectualEffects:

BasisOfWageStructureShouldBeAlteredTo SystemWhichWillProvideRealFamilyIncome

TheStatementbeginsby deploringthatthelarge majorityofAustralians arepropertyless, foritis productivepropertywhich alonegivesstabilityto family(andhencetonational)life.

However, sincethewage systemistheeconomic andsocialrealityofthe time,"itisvitalthatthat systemshouldbejustin practiceandinfusedwith Christianprinciples.'"

TheStatementdoesnot holdthattheexistingwage systemisthefairestor mostefficientmethodofremuneration,andproposes asystemofFamilyIncomeinitsplace.

Reviewingwagestrends overthepastdecade, the Statementconcludesthat, whiletheywereincreases inthenominalwage, the riseintherealwagewas smallerbyfarthanstatisticssuggest.

TheStatementfurther claimsthatthescaleofincomeinrecentyearshas beenloadedincreasingly againsttheworkerwith familyresponsibilities.Examplesofthistrendare citedinthecasesofyoung peoplewho, uponleaving school, arepaidwagesout ofproportiontotheincome ofworkerswithfamilies. It ismanifest, itsays, that thosewhohavenodependantsshouldnotexceedtheir properrequirements.
