TheP.andC.Association annuallyobtainsmany amenitiesandspecialequipmentforStateschools whichshouldbeequally freelyavailabletoCatholic taxpayingparentsfortheir childreninourschools. Subsidiesarepaidona poundforpoundbasistoP. andC'sforOslolunch rooms,schoolwireless, schoollibraries,publicaddresssystems,andvisual educationequipment.
Sincethesethingsarean integralpartofmodern education,theyshouldbe freelyavailabletoallchildrenwhoareeducatedin theState,whateverkindof schooltheyattend.They areexpensivethingstoprovide,andthereforeState assistanceintheirprovi-

AsournationallifehasdevelopedinAustralia, theStatehasestablishedasystemofcommoneducationforitscitizenswhichdoesnotadequatelyprovide, evenindirectly,forsuchintegration.Consequently thosetowhomadequatereligiousinstructionandadequatetrainingintrueChristianlivingisanessential partoftheeducationofchildrenmustseekother means.And,providedthatthestandardofsecular educationgivenintheirschoolsmeetsthelegitimate requirementsoftheState,parentswhousethoseother means,fulfiltheircivicduty.TheStatehas,indeed, therighttomakeeducationcompulsory,not,however, therighttoinsistthatallchildrenattendState schools.Thechoiceofaschoolistherightofthe family,andthatchoicedoesnot,surely,depriveparentsofafirstclaimtotheboonoffreeeducationenjoyedbytheirfellow-citizens.

Mustwenotsaythat,if thewholeChurchfellinto atotalmisconceptionabout thepriesthoodOurLord intendedHisChurchtJ possess,thenthereisno solidassuranceofdivine guidancebyanybody?
Isnotthefargreater likelihoodthatofamistaken courseinitiatedbyCalvin, andmodifiedanddeveloped byAndrewMelvilleinthe constructionofthePresbyteriansystem?
TheRealStory
Aswehaveseeninthese articles,Anglo-SaxonPresbyterianismbeganinSco..land.Andonenaturally askshowitcameabout thatanewreligionwas partlyimposeduponand partlywelcomedbythat country.
Presbyterianswould doubtlesssaythatsuccess wasduetothenewreligion beingareturntothepuresystemandtruerfaithof primitiveChristianity.
Itisnotdifficulttosee whypeople,uninstructedin thefaith,shouldhavefailed toperceivethedoctrinai errorsofthenewreligion, andwhy,withsuchbad exampleshownthemby theirclergy,andwithsuch positivepressureputupon them,theyshouldhave agreedtoacceptanewre ligionofalmostanykind.
AsIhavesaid,noCatholiccanenjoywritingsuch thingsofhisfellowCatholicsofformerages.Butthe truthmustbetoldfrom

Thesoldiersoftheguar, thentakeJesusintothe hallofthepraetorium,and allthemenofthecohort aresummonedtothescene -therearefewamusements inthisoccupiedcountry.
AndyettheSaviourhas oftenshownHimselfto haveaspecialsympathy withsoldiers.Headmired thetrustandhumilityof thecenturionandhisaffectionatecarefortheservant whomHehealed.
