Thecentreofthearena wasthenoccupiedbychildrenrepresentingalltheCatholicschoolsofthemetropolitanarea.Schooluniformsintan,lightgrey, green,darkandlightblue, black,redandwhite,made colourfullinesofcontrast againstthebeautifullygrassedoval.Throughout theafternoonablustery South-Westwindpersisted, butdidnotdetractfrom theamplificationofthe speeches.

FatherLynchfirstspoke briefly.Hesaidtheyhad notassembledtherethat afternoontodisplaytheir solidarityorstrength.It wasnotareligiouspageant. Theyhadcometherefor thesolepurposeoflistening toamessagetobedelivered tothembynoneotherthan ourBlessedLadyherself. TheHon.Mr.Kellysaid theoccasion,whichwasan inspiringone,couldnotfail tostirwithinthemthedeterminationtoobtaina muchgreaterdegreeofdevotionandattentiontothe problemofeliminatftig fromfamilylifetheevilsof lukewarmChristianity.To givethenationsolidarity andservicetheyneeded familiesjoinedtogetherin familyprayer.

TheRosarywasthenrecited,fiveprominentlaymengivingaMysteryeach, aftertheRev.J.Depiazzi hadsummarisedthemeditationpoints.

ThelaymenwereMr.M. Ahern(prominentCatholic family),Mr.C.V.Honnor (LegionofMary),Mr.J. Roberts(HolyNameSociety),Mr.J.Colbert(St. VincentdePaulSociety), andMr.H.Gallagher(Third OrderofMt.Carmel).

FatherPeytonbeganfirst ofallbysayingthanksto theArchbishopandother leadersinGodforgiving himtheprivilegetobewith them.HisGrace'shelpand receptionhadbeenwarm, humbleandresponsive,said FatherPeyton,havingdedicatedgenerouslyfive weeksofhistimetothe pledgeoftheHolyRosary Crusade.

Itstrikesmeasoddthat someofthenewspapers whicharesuddenlysovery righteousarefilledwith picturesofnear-nudewomeninseductivepostures,

Surelyifthepressbarons aresincereabouttheperils ofsexualvicetheycould makeamoreconvincing startincleaningouttheir ownstables.Orperhaps theybelievethat,while homosexualityismonstrous,fornicationissimply goodcleansport.

Itwillbeaswell,Ithink, tostatethatallsexualindulgenceoutsidemarriage isaseriousviolationofthe lawofGodandinthevast majorityofinstancesitrepresentsaperversioneither ofthepurposeortheeffects ofthesexact.Evenwithin themarriagebondaberrationsofpurposearewidespread.

NoLicenceOutside

Iamnotatallsurethat verymuchgoodisachieved inattemptingdistinctionbe-tweenthetypesofperversion,excepttopointout thatfornicationwhichdoes notinvolvecontraception frequentlyhassocialrepercussionsofaparticularly tragickind.

Suchconductishighlyoffensivetothemajestyof Godbecauseitcutsdirectly acrossHisexpresscommand-afactascertainable byreasonasaviolationof thenaturalorderestablishedbyHim.

SocialImpactCounts

Secondly,sexualaberrationsare,inonewayor another,destructiveofgood socialorder.Thesolitary sinsunderminecharacterin amostnotablefashion,as dointimaciesbetweenpersonsofthesamesex.The proportionofunwanted childreninourorphanages pronounceasocialjudgment againstfornicationand adultery.

Whatdividesourcapitalist wayoflifefromthatof Communismis,invisible realities,thefamily.Itis thecellaboutwhichour wholesocialorderisbuilt asagainsttheState.Whetherthebodypoliticisstableandhealthydependson thestateofthemassoffamilieswhichcompriseit.

Yetthemostperfervid apologistofourwayoflife wouldbehard-pressedto showthatfamilylifeinour societyisinaflourishing condition.Theverynotion offamilylifeistodayin perilofbeingswallowedup intheinhumancollectivity oftheMarxists.

Itisnotveryoftenthat asocialissuecanbecrystallisedinapracticaltestcase. Butwhenitdoesoccuritis clearlyoffirst-classimportanceanddeservestheclose attentionofthoughtfulcitizens.

When refusedtheCatholicBishops totaketheOathof Elizabeth'ssupremacyall weredeposedandimprison- edexceptBishopKitchinof Llandaffwhoconformedto thenewlaw.Elizabeth thereuponappointedanew hierarchy,beginningwith MatthewParker,whowas consecratedtobeArchbishopofCanterburyaccordingtotheRitesofthe 1552PrayerBook;and,therefore,accordingto Catholicrequirements, quiteinvalidly.

Thesebegantoexertall possibleinfluenceto"pu- rify"theAnglicanChurch inaProtestantdirection, protestingevenagainstthe retentionofanepiscopal formofecclesiasticalorganization.These"Puritans," astheywerecalled,wanted aPresbyterianorCongregationaltypeofChurch, andmanyofthemendedbyleavingtheChurchofEng- landtobecomemembersof Nonconformistsects.

Thisrejectionoftheju- risdictionofthehitherto acknowledgedHolySeeresultedinthecreationofa newandindependent Church,separatedfromthe PapacyandfromtheCatholicChurchontheContinent everybitasmuchastherejectionofthejurisdictionof theBritishThronebythe AmericanColonieswiththe "DeclarationofIndependence"in1776A.D.resultedinthenewandindepen- dentnationinthecivil orderknownastheUnited StatesofAmerica.

AnglicanwritersdenythatHenry'sbreakwith Romeandrejectionofthe Pope'sauthorityresultedin anewChurch,anddeclare thatthe"ChurchofEngland"remainedthesame institutionastheChurchin Englandbeforethatevent. Butsuchacontentionwill notbearhistoricalscrutiny.

Asapreludetothe"Act ofRoyalSupremacy"Henryhadenacteda"Statuteof Appeals",inthepreamble towhichhesoughttojustifyhisactions.Commenting onthissubject,inhis"His-

In1549Cranmerproduced afirst"BookofCommon Prayer";butitfollowedthe LatinMissaltoocloselytosatisfythosebentonatrulyProtestantreformation;in 1552,therefore,Cranmerissuedasecond"Prayer Book"whichreflectedina farmorepronouncedway bothLutheranandCalvinist influences,sweepingawayallreferencestoasacrificial priesthoodandanytraces ofbeliefintheRealPresenceofChristintheEucharist.

ExaltingTeaching

Wearenotconcernedfor themomentwiththe Church'struth.Ourimmediateconcerniswiththe evidenthighmoralityof Catholicdoctrine.Wesay "evident"becauseitisunchallenged.

Manywickedthingshave beensaidagainstthe Church,manyaccusations havebeenmade,buteven herenemiesadmitthat throughnearly2,000years, amidstthewidestpossible varietyofcircumstances, herteachinghasnever swervedfromthehighest moralstandard.
