HisGracesaidthatthe buildinghadbeenbadly neededforalongtime, but manycircumstanceshad preventedtheworkbeing startedinthelastdecade.

Hepaidtributetothe manypriestswhohad bornetheinconveniences oftheoldbuilding. The oldhouse,HisGracesaid, hadpassedthedaysofits usefulness.Itwascloseon 80yearsold,andverymany priestshadshelteredunder itsroof.

Itwasnowinabadstate, incapableofbeingrestored, generallyunhealthy,and moreorlesscondemned.It wasnolongerafittingresidencefortheirpriests,and outofkeepingwiththeir beautifulchurch.
