Yetanothernewparochialschoolwasblessedanddeclared openbyHisGracetheArchbishoponJuly12intheparishofMosmanPark,beforeagatheringofabout1,000persons.Erectedat acostof£11,800,theschoolfillsalong-feltwant.Parishioners contributedmorethan£1,200ontheopeningday.
HisGracetheArchbishop waswelcomedbytheRev.J. Murphy,parishpriest.After thebuildinghadbeenblessandHisGracehadconcludedhisaddress,theRev.M. Meohane,0.M.I.,madean eloquentappeal,whichmet withareadyresponse.
Afterthefunction,afternoonteawasservedinthe schoolgrounds.Abrief lullintheinclementweather prevailedduringtheceremony.
Archbishop'sAddress
HisGracesaidhewasdelightedtobeassociatedwith thefunctionthatday,andto beaffordedtheopportunity ofconveyingpubliclyhis congratulationstoFather Murphyandtothepeopleof MosmanPark.Hewasvery pleasedwiththebuilding, andcongratulatedthearchitects,Messrs.Hendersonand Thompson,onthedignified andserviceabledesign.He alsocongratulatedBerry Bros.,thecontractors,on theirexcellentworkmanship.
Itwasafineschool,said HisGrace,ineveryway worthyofthesiteandworthyofthepurposeforwhich ithadbeenerected;itwould measureupmostadequate9ytothemostexactingdemandsofmoderneducationalbuildingrequirements.
TheCatholicpopulationof MosmanParkwassmall comparatively,hecontinued, anditrequiredgreatcourageonthepartoftheparish priestandparishionersto launchontheventurethe expenditureof£12,000.But theyhadthecourageand thevision,andtheyrealised thataschoolwasnecessary -aschoolworthyoftheir ,childrenandworthyoftheir teachers,thenunsofthe PresentationOrder.
UnforgottenLesson
"Asweblessthisbuilding to-day,continuedHis Grace,"anddedicateitto thecauseofCatholiceducation,ourthoughtsgoback tothesceneinPalestine whenOurLord,accompaniedbyHisApostles,metthe groupofmotherswiththeir littlechildren.Themothers hadfallentotheirknees andhelduptheirlittlechildrentobeblessed.But Peter,thespokesmanforthe Apostles,rebukedthem,and toldthem,ineffect,togo away.OurLordinturn rebukedhiminthosememorablewords,wordswhich wouldre-echodownthrough theages:"Sufferthelittle childrentocomeuntoMe andforbidthemnot;forof suchisthekingdomof God."
InthatincidentOurLord taughtHisApostles,the Church,andthechildrenof HisChurchalessonforall timetocome,alessonthat theyhadneverforgotten. TheparishpriestandpeopleofMosmanParkhad
notforgottenthatlesson; thatcommandhadbeen obeyedbythemtotheletter.Itwasobeyedinevery brickandtie,ineveryboard andnailinthebuildingthey hadassembledthatdayto bless.
Fortheyhadopenedthe doorsofaschoolwherethe imageofourSaviourwould haveaprominentplacein eachclassroom,wherethe religiousatmospherewould prevailatalltimes,where thelittlechildrenofthe parishwouldbebroughtto thefeetofOurLordevery dayoftheschoolyear.
Andifto-daytheChurch inAustraliawasstrongand virile,withitsstrengthand virilitygrowingyearby year,wewereindebtedfor thathappypositiontothe factthatAustralianCatholicshadobeyedthatcommandofOurLord,even thoughatthecostofmuch sacrifice.
Butitwaspreciselythat sacrifice,saidHisGrace, whichhadbroughtsuch blessingstoourschools,and hadbroughtsuchstrength andvirility,gloryandprestigetotheChurchinour land.
NoDispleasureHere
Inthatincident,asrecordedinthreeofthefour Gospels,OurLordhadused astrongphrasetoexpress Hisfeelings.towardsHis Apostles.Hewasvery muchdispleased.TheApostleshadmademanymistakes,buttheirMasterwas alwayspatientwiththem.
When,however,therewas questionofkeepingthelittlechildrenawayfromHim, Hewasverymuchdispleased.
OurLordwasnotdispleasedwiththeCatholics ofAustralia.Hewasnot
displeasedwiththeCatholic teachingOrdersofpriests, Brothersandnuns,because theyhadnotforbiddenthe children,buthadbrought themtoHisfeet.
Hewasnotdispleased withthePresentationnuns andthepeopleofMamma Park,because,inthegloriousworkofCatholiceducationtheyhadstoodshouldertoshoulderwiththeir fellowCatholicsinAustralia formorality,forreligion,for theonlytrueandcomplete education.
FaithinPeople
Hewasnotdispleased withtheirgood,zealous, efficient,andunselfishpastor,towhoseenergy,zeal andleadership,backedby thewholeheartedco-operationandgenerosityofhis people,wewereindebtedfor theschoolwewereblessing thatday-aschoolthat wouldbringthousandsof childrentothefeetofOur Lordintheyearsthatlie ahead.
Withlesscourageand visiontheparishpriestof MosmanParkwouldhave beensatisfiedwiththeold, out-datedclassroomsnearby.Itwasaltogetherunsatisfactoryandinadequate.

Mostofthemembersof theParisConfraternitiesof Charitywerenobleladies. Theysenttheirservantsto distributetheirgiftstothe poor,buttheseservants, treatingtheworkasanextraduty,failedtoservethe poor.Toassistthesenoble ladies,St.Vincent,together withSt.Louise,foundedthe DaughtersofCharity,who to-daynumber40,000members,certainlydistinguished

Verycarefully,theSaint instructedhishelpersto makeconstantuseofthe supernaturalhelps.Their workswouldnotbesuccessfulinGod'seyes,iftheydid notmakeuseoftheMass, theSacramentsandprayer. Busythoughhewas,this FatherofthePoornever omittedanhour'sprayerto Godeveryday.People neverceasedtoremarkon hisfervourwhilesaying Mass.SuccessinGod's eyeswastheonlysuccess Vincentcaredfor.None ofhispriestswouldpraise himorhisCongregationto hisface.Theyknewhow hehatedhumanpraiseand howhewishedthateachof themwouldperformall theiractionstopleaseGod alone.
Holy.SpiritIsReal ConcretePerson
Itisoneofthe pitiesofcontemporarypietythatthere isstillnoroominit fortheHolySpirit. Thisisnottosay, ofcourse,thatthe ordinarygoodCatholiceitherdoubts theexistenceofthe ThirdPersonor theexaltedTrinity, orknowinglyexcludesHimfrom prayer.TheaverageCatholicdoes notknowtheHoly Spirit,andsoisas strangewithHim asanymanisapt tobewithanystranger.
TwinMisfortunes
Unfortunately,theThird PersoninGodhassuffered twohistoricalmisfortunes inHisceaselessefforttobecomeconsciouslyaswellas actuallypresentinmen.The firstmisfortunewasthe workoftheliterarypeople, whotranslatedthefineold Latinspiritusintothe unhappyEnglishghost.
Thesecondmisfortune camefromtheartists,who nevergotbeyondadoveas thepictorialrepresentation ofthatmajesticPersonwho onHismostcelebrated epiphanyappearedfirstas amightywindandthenas flame.Anyhow,theHoly Spiritcertainlydoesnot playthegorgeouspartin ChristianmindsthatHe certainlyplaysintheChristianliturgy.
Onedifficultywouldseem tobe-andherethewind andtheflamearenomore helpfulthanthedove-that wetendtothinkoftheHoly Spirit,insofaraswethink ofHimatall,asavague forceratherthanasanextremelyconcreteandspecificPerson.Heissome thingratherthanSomeone.

Asecondtroubleisthat wearenonetooclearinour mindsaboutwhatthis Persondoes.Wethinkmore orlessaccuratelyofGodthe Fatherascreatingus,and weknowwellthatGodthe Sonredeemedus.Weare apttowondersomewhatirreverentlyjustwhatGod theHolySpiritdoes,not knowinghowmuchHedoes forus.

AsforwhattheHoly Spiritwilldo,OurSaviour assignsHimtwofunctions whichshouldheartilycommendHimtotheenthusiasticloveofanyearnest Christianstrugglingtofind somedecentandrelatively tranquilwaythroughthis miryandbafflingandominousworld.
TheHolySpiritwillprove theworldwrong.Thatnonspiritualorantispiritual worldaroundus,thatbusy, circumambientworldof secularismorMarxism,that worldstrictlysocalledfor whichChristrefusedto pray-tothatworldthe whelmingHolySpiritwill givethelie.Hewillshow ithopelesslywrong.
