ThepilgrimagewasjoinedinPerthby25West Australianmembers,includingSisterStellaBoxsellandMissMargaret Sanderson,oftheCatholic Migrationoffice.Theparty sailedlaterintheday aboardtheStrathaird.

Bishop'sAddress

Addressingtheassembled prelatesandpilgrims,His Lordshipsaidtheywerea fortunateband.Theywere weretakingtheplaceofliterallymillionsoffellow Australianswhowouldgive almostalltheyhadtoaccompanythemonthatpilgrimage.Circumstancesof familyconditions,perhaps financialcircumstances,had madeitpossibleforthemto havethejoyandthegrace fromAlmightyGodto

overagain-thepeace whichOurLordsaidthis worldcouldnotgive,but whichHewouldgivetoHis followers.

TheyprayedtoAlmighty Godthatthepilgrimswould havepeaceintheirhearts, namely,thattheywouldbe friendsofAlmightyGod. thattheirconscienceswould besuchparticularlyduring thepilgrimage.It,therefore,restedwiththemselves. Nodoubttheyhadheard beforethattheywere,shall wesay,pilgrims-de-luxe, continuedtheBishop.Nowdayspilgrimswentinfirstclassliners,first-class trains;manywentbyfoot inthepast,butmodern meansoftravelwerepart ofGod'swillforthem;the pilgrimagewasnotmerely avoyageofgaping,sightseeingtourists.Theywould beallthetimeChristian people,indeedappreciating theamusementsitwouldbe theirpleasuretovisitinEurope;butatthesametime rememberingthattheyhad topraytoGodtohavepeace andcontentmentorsatisfactioninthepilgrimagethey wereabouttomake.

Theyalsoaskedtogether thatGodwouldgiveBlessedRaphaeltheArchangel

willbeinthepresenceof theVicarofChrist;mayyou havethegracealwaysto appreciatethehonourthat isbeinggiventoyouasthe standardbearersandthe leadersofthepeopleof Australia.Certainlyyou areachosenband,youare chosentovisittheCommon HolyFather;youarethe representativesofallofus whomyouleavebehind,beforethethroneofPeterin thatHolyCity.Wepray thatwhileyouaretherethat youwillremembernotonly yourselvesbutthosewhom youhaveleftbehindin Australia.
