OnSunday,March15,therewilltakeplace,intheChristian Brotherscollege,St.George'sterrace,theannualConventionof thePerthDiocesanunionoftheHolyNamesociety.IntotheConventionwillbeincorporatedtheannualgeneralmeetingandannualelectionofofficersofthePerthDiocesanunion.

Proceedingswillcommenceat1.30p.m.and shouldterminateabout 5.30p.m.Thefunctionwill closewithBenedictionof theBlessedSacramentin thecollegechapel.

Itisparticularlyrequestedthatallbranches,both countryandmetropolitan makeeveryefforttobe representedbytheirspiritual directorsandofficers,as theseannualmeetingsare mostimportant..Theannual reportsoftheDiocesan secretaryandtreasurer conveythemostusefulinformationandfrequently enablebranchestoachieve progressduringthefollowingyear.

Anyitemsofbusiness whichbranchesdesiretobe placedontheagendashould besentimmediatelytothe generalsecretary.

Northambranchwillbe wellrepresentedatthe meeting.Thereisalsoa possibilitythataseniorofficerfromtheEasternStates maybevisitingPerthatthe timeofthemeeting, whichcasehewouldattend asanhonouredguest.

ThePope'sprolongedillnesshascauseddisappointmenttomanypilgrimswho hadhopedtocrowntheir visittoRomewithanaudiencewiththePope.Itis statedunofficiallythateven afterregaininghishealth theHolyFathermayhave to neralreducethecountlessgeaudiencesheusedto givebefore.Itisbelieved thatthesemanyaudiences wereagreatdrainonhis strengthandcontributed heavilytoundermininghis health.

Asonlastyear,theday willbeanationaldayof Rosaries,andtheintention willbethespiritualandcorporalsafetyofpersecuted Catholicclergyandlaityin pagtnlands.

Themethodwillbehalfhourlysessionscontinuously

fromtheendofthelast Masstothebeginningof eveningDevotionsineach parish.

Alonglifeofserviceanddevotionto thewelfareoftheAustralianaboriginalchildrenwasclosedonTuesday,February3, whenSisterTeresa,oftheBenedictineOblate SistersatNewNorciawenttoherreword. Deceasedhadreachedthe ripeoldageof85years,almosthalfofwhichshehad livedamongthenativegirls ofS.tJoseph'sOrphanageat NewNorcia,whereshedied.

BorninSpain,thelate SisterTeresacametoNew Norciain1905,attheinvitationofBishopTorres,secondAbbotofNewNorcia. Shecameasoneofasmall bandofSistersoftheCompanyofSt.Teresa-aSpanishreligiousCongregation

ButSisterTeresahadalreadytastedthefruitsof missionarylife,andfoundit verymuchtoherliking.No soonerwasshefreefromher obligationswiththeCompanyofSt.Teresathanshe offeredherservicestoBishopTorres,whogladlyac-

DictatorshipNeeded

Butitisconsolidationin adisillusioned,alertand. indeed,hostileworld.In suchasituationthedictatorshipoftheproletariat mustbemademoreruthless, theIronCurtainmustbe madetoexcludeeverypossiblenon-Communistinfluence.

Tounderstandthenew horrorintheCommunist countries,andwhatpromptedStalinandhisfollowers totakethisaction,whichis boundtobesodamagingto

politicalactivitiesinthe Communistcamp,appealing tothecivilauthoritiesfor protection"againstthetyrannyoffeudaldignitaries oftheChurch."Thepriest receivedthestateprotection andalsotheCavalier'scross oftheOrderofPolonia RestitutafromPresident BoleslawBierut.

TheforthcomingtrialofprominentJewishdoctorsinMoscowandthepurgingofJewishCommunistleadersinanumber oftheotherIronCurtaincountries,hasbeenwidelyportrayed asabetrayalofCommunistdoctrine.Itisnothingofthesort. Inonesensetheexistence ofCatholiccommunitieswith linkswiththeVaticanand withCatholicsthroughout theworldisseeninthe sameway.Hencetheinsistenceupon"breakingwith theVatican."ThusJewsand Catholicsaregivenalink ofsufferingandpersecution.

AllMayBeKilled

Thepurposeofthepresentattackuponprominent Jewsofvarioustypesis clearlytointimidatethe 2,500,000JewsinRussiaand thesatellitecountriesinto cuttingthemselvesofffrom theirkithandkinabroad.
