Openingthenewboys'RegionalschoolatEastVictoriawhoserecordofachievement ParkonFeb.8,inthepresenceofalargecrowdfromthenineparisheswhichwillbeservedbytheRegionalschool,HisGracethe ArchbishopsaidChristianeducationwadthesalvationofapeople.

Forthemaintenanceof goodorder;andthepreservationofsociety,three thingswererequired-au-thority,liberty,religion.In otherwords,theState,the individual,theChurch. Thosethreeeachinitsown sphere,andsoarrangedin itsrelationtotheothers thatallmightactharmoniously;thesethreeconstitutedtheidealgovernment. Statesmen,saidtheArchbishop,werebusyto-day planningareorganisationof theworld.Theywereright inthinkingthatthecoreof

IfthehistoryofChristendomwasstudiedcloselyin thelightofultimatecauses, itwouldbefoundthatthe originofallsocialdisinte_ grationwhichhadreached itsclimaxinourdaywas(ttheschoolhadbeenrenderthatsuccessivegenerations hadstriventosettheprofessionandpracticeofthe Christianfaithinaphilosophyoflivingalientothe Christianethic.
Thehopeoftheworldlay inunitingthepracticeof Christianitytoanoutlook onlifeconsistentwith Christianity.Anditwas preciselythefunctionof Christianeducationtoimparttoyouthsuchanoutlook. "Anditisbecausewebelievethat,"continuedHis Grace,"andhavethecourageofourconvictions,that weareassembledheretodaytoblessthisChristian educationcentre.Thatis thereasonwhytheChristianBrothershavegraciouslyacceptedourinvitationto staffthisschool-theChristianBrothers,renowned throughouttheworld-the newaswellastheold-as secondtononeasabodyof educatorsandeducated men:theChristianBrothers,

Theywerefortunatein havingsecuredtheservices oftheChristianBrothers whowouldbringwiththem toEastVictoriaParkthe splendidtraditionsthat characterisedtheirschools everywhere.
HisGracepaidatribute tothesplendidworkof FatherO'Connorinconnectionwiththebuildingof theschool.FatherO'Connor,hesaid,hadgivenunselfishlyofhis.timeand energyinordertokeep downcosts.Thathehad succeededwasveryevident fromthefactthat,sucha fineschoolhadcostonly £6,400.Inthankinghim, theArchbishopcongratulatedhimonhisfineachievement.

TheTherrysocietyhas,as itsgeneralaim,theformationofabodyoflayapostleswho,bytheirquestfor personalholinessandtechnicalexcellence,willstrive forthere-christianisingof entertainment,moreespeciallythatofthe-theatre.

Afterthefinaleventat LeedervilleonFeb.7it couldbesaidthat"the Douglas"mightbepolished andputintothemuchdiscussedY.C.W.trophy cabinet.
Theclubtrophystory, however,isavastlydifferentone.AfteradisappointingdayforY.C.W.,UniversityandFremantlearein firstandsecondpositions withY.C.W.20pointsbehind,inthirdplace.Coach GerryHoganfirmlybelieves thattheUniversityteam willrunitselfintothe groundduringtheheavy programmeonFeb.14.But whenY.C.W.losesevery sprint,somethingdrastichas tobedone.
TheUniversityclubis smallbutpowerfuland everymemberisloaded withenthusiasm.Apathy seemstohavereplaced enthusiasmamongalotof theY.C.W.boys.Itwould beagreatpityifthiswere torobthemofthechance toretainbothtrophies.
Manyoftheyounger membercouldtakenoticeof JohnFraser'sfightbackin theseconddivisionquarter. Atthe14yd.markhewas some15to20yds.behind Stateman,RoySchuler, andnoonewouldhave givenhimachance.He camehomewithatremendousburstwhichfailedby theslightestofmarginsin theexcellenttimeof51.5 secs.

Duringmylastannual holidaysinsummerfish wereplentiful.Twoofmy friendsandIdecidedtogo totheAbrolhosislandsfor afishingholiday.Sooneof ussuppliedthefood,andI enquiredaboutaboatwhile myotherfriendcollected materialforrepairsthat wethoughtwasneededin caseofaccident.According toourplansthetriptothe islandwastotakefivedays, andwedecidedtoleaveat daybreakonMondaymorning, Thepartyarrivedon time.Justasthesunwas risingwepulledoutof Fremantle.Thefirsttwo dayswereverypleasant. Thewaterwascalmane everythingwentwell,until, onTuesdaynight,thesky lookedcloudyByWednesdayitwasrainingandthe boatbegantogetheavy, thewindstrong,andthe searough.Bymidnightthe enginebegantofalterso thatwefound.ourselvesin danger.Fortunately,we weretravellingclosetothe coastandallwecoulddo wastoanchorclosetothe Islands.Aswehadnoway ofsendingforassistancewe decidedtoremainonthe islanduntilwecouldattract apassingboatorplane. Whenwefirstarrivedon theislandtherewereafew nativestobeseenbutthey seemedtobewildandfrightenedofusandranaway. Later,wefoundawayof makingfriendsbygiving themsometobacco,which theyappreciatedverymuch andmadegoodfriends.By nightthenativeshadmade hutstosleepinandlita firewhichmadeusfeelvery comfortable.Workinghard onourboatwespentse-
veraldaysontheisland butwefounditbeyond repair.Ontheeighthday wesawaboatcoming aroundthecoast.Onseeing oursignsitdrewnearthe island.Andknowingthe boatwasbeyondrepairthe otherpartytookthethree ofusbacktoFremantle. Althoughwedidn'tgetto ourfishingwehadavery goodexperience.
