VaticanCity,Jan.10:Ahistory-makingApostolicConstitutionbyHisHolinessPopePiusXIIhasgrantedlimitedfaculty foreveningMassesthroughouttheworldandhasliberalisedthe EucharisticFast.Entitled"ChristusDominus(Christthe Lord),theConstitutionwasissuedbytheSacredCongregation oftheHolyOfficetogetherwithaspeciallypreparedinstruction explainingit.ThenewconstitutionliberalisestheEucharistic fastingregulationsforbothpriestsandpeople.

Asalientfeatureistheoritysaid,"goesoutabove,facultytoheartheconfession principlethattakingplainalltothemissionariesandofthepersonwhoturnsto waternolongerbreaksthe Eucharisticfast,nomatter whentaken.

Thenewlawpermitsthe sickundercertainconditions totakemedicinewithout brealtingtheirEucharistic fast.

ThePope'sprincipalmotiveinissithik;thenewConstitution,accordingtoacompetent,authorityhere,ishis concerntofacilitatecornminionforthesick,workers, mothersoffamiliesand childrenofallconditions.

Thenewlegislationisseen ascorrespondingtothe greatlychangedconditionsof modernlife,thisauthority said.HestatedthePope arrivedathisdecisionbecause"theparticularconditionsofthetimeshaveintroducedmanymodifications intotheusesofsocietyand commonlife."Becauseof thesechanges,"hesaid,"grave difficultiescouldariseleadingmenawayfromparticipationintheDivineMysteries,shouldthelawofthe Eucharisticfasthavetobe fullyobserved."
