Reason,ifunprejudiced andlogical,mustadmitthat theworldandthethingsin itdidnotcomeintoexistenceofthemselves.Onlyan adequatecausecanexplain theexistenceoftheworld. OnlyGod,aninfiniteCreator,canbethatadequate cause.
Andagain"IamtheLord, thatalonemakeallthings,thatalonestretchoutthe heavens,thatestablishthe earth,andthereisnone withMe"(Is.xliv,24).
Itisnotstrange,therefore,thatcreationoutof nothingshouldbeadogma offaith,whichhasfound expressioninthevarious creeds:"IbelieveinGod, thecreatorofheavenand earth."
Beyondthisreasoningwe haveGod'swordforthefact ofcreation.InSacredScripturewereadinthefirst chapterofGenesis:"Inthe beginningGodcreated heavenandearth"(i,1).The samedoctrineisfoundin thePsalms,whereeverythingissaidtohavebeen madebythesimplewordof God;intheSapientialbooks, whereitisassertedthat, Godmadeallthings,even theabyssesandeventhat whichtousseemsevil(hail, famine.death).
