ThetoastofHisHoliness thePopewasgivenbyMr. PaulBrennan,B.A.,inhis inimitablemanner,and fromitmembersdrewan immensedividend.Hewas warmlythankedbytheRev. J.McCarthy,whoapologisedforhislatearrivaldueto thefactthathehadtoattendasecondMassatPalgarup,sixmilesnorth, whereagatheringof70 (mainlymen)followedthe excellentexampleofHoly Namemembers,whohad madesuchapleasingspectaclebyattendingCommunioninsuchstrengthatManjimupearlier.

standardofspeechesgone before.Hepraisedthe Unionexecutivefortheir guidinganddrivinginfluenceatalltimes.

Responding,Mr.Foley saiditwashisthirdsuccessivevisittoManjimup,alwaysanannualdelight,becausehelookeduponManjimupasoneofhisgood branches,co-operativeand helpfulatattimes.

Thecompetitionsforthe 1952-1953trackseasonopenedatLeedervilleovalon Nov.8,whenmembersperformedinbrilliantstyleto leadinfouroutofthefive competitionsandwinthree ofthefiverelays.

Intheabsenceofanumberofleadingathletes, throughsickness,etc.,others werecalleduponforrather abigprogrammesoearlyin theseason,butresponded verywell.Outstandingin thisconnectionwereF.Butler,G.Lambe,B.O'Malley, andL.Jermy,whovirtually putonaprogrammebetweenthem.

WithouttheservicesofA. deGruchy,B.Hanney,R. Waters,andG.Thorpe,the "A"gradeteamwaswellbelowstrengthbutfinishedthe daywithacomfortablelead. Inthiscompetitiontheclub wasrepresentedbyP.Jerrat,G.Ward,F.O'Connell, T.Hughan,J.O'Connell,T. Foley,J.Fraser,J.Chilvers, W.O'Grady,andK.Salt, andwithonlyoneacknowledgedsprinterintherelay teamwereonlydownedin thelaststride.

Inviewoftherecentreductionofeventsinthe"A" grade,itwasexpectedother clubswouldbeseenat greatstrength,butapparentlyevenfurtherreductionswouldbenecessaryto meetthelimitednumerical strengthofsome.

Despitetheabsenceofa numberofmembers,the "B"gradeteamwassufficientlystrongtoscoreas manypointsasanyother fiveclubs.Thesprintersin thisgroup-M.Haydock,E. Reid,C.JohnsonandJ. Thenextdancewillbe heldonSunday,Nov.23,in theTamarstreethall,and onceagainmembersareinvitedtocomealongandenjoythemselves. Thegirlswhowentto "MarianLodge"enjoyed themselvesverymuch,and enquirieshavealreadybeen madeastowhenthenext week-endwillbe.Unfortunately,thiswillnotbe untiltheNewYear. Supportersarestillrequiredforthesoftball teams,playingatLangley ParkeverySaturday afternoon.

SHENTONPARK.
