Aftermanymonthsofuneextainty,ithasnowbeen learnedthatmorethan ayearago,hedied(Feb. 21,1952),asaCommunist prisonerinCanton.News ofhisdeathwasbrought herebyaMaryknollSister, whohasservedBishopFord assecretaryformanyyears, hadbeenimprisonedwith himontrumped-upcharges shortlybeforeChristmas, 1950,andwasreleasedand expelledfromChinaafew daysago.
SisterJoanMarieRyan, whoarrivedhereweakand emaciatedwiththesad news,wastoldoftheBishop'sdeathonAugust16.A CantonprisonofficialinformedherthattheBishop haddiedof'oldageandillness,"despite"specialmedicalattention."Shewas forcedtosignacertificateto thateffect.

NewsofthedeathofBishopFordisallthemore shocking,asonlyafew weeksagothreeAustralian airmenarrivedhereafter theirreleasefromCanton prisonwithareportthat theyhadseentheBishop apparently"ingoodhealth, wellclothed,andreceiving adequatefood."
SisterJoanMariereportedthatshehadseenBishop Fordfourtimesduringtheir longimprisonment.Last Januaryshesawhimona stairway.Hewasemaciated,hishairwaswhite,and hehadalong,bushywhite beard.TheBishopwasso weakthathecouldnot walk,theSistersaid.
Twodayslater,shesaw theBishopagain,walking withdifficultyonthearmof anotherprisoner.Onthe thirdoccasion,sheobserved theBishopbeingcarried downaflightofstairs"like asackofpotatoes."She sawhimthelasttimeearly inFebruary,justafew weeksbeforehisdeath.

TheladsofBindoonBoys'Townwere gatheredtocheerthearrivaloffourbuses andafleetofcarscarrying200members andfriendsoftheIrishclub,whentheyarrivedatthesettlementshortlyaftermidday onSundaylastfortheirannualoutingtoentertainthechildren.
Afterhavingrenewedacquaintancesoflastyear,the picnickerspartookoflunch onthelawnsinfrontofthe mainbuildings.Aftera hurriedinspectionofthe progressmadewiththe buildings,thechildren's sportswereheld.Events werearrangedtosuitthe differentagegroups,and largeentriesandkeenfinishesweretheorderofthe day.
Asportsprogrammefor adultsfollowed,inwhich competitionwasverykeen, yetfulloffun.Thencame asoccermatchbetweena NorthPerthselectionand theclubteam,the"ShamrockRovers."Itresulted inascorelessdraw.
Whilethegreaterpartof thevisitorspartookoftea, theboysplayedthedub tabletennisteam,andwo'h easily.Then,asthelight wasfailing,therefloated overthesurroundingbushlandtheliftofIrishairs tellingallthat'thefinalitem ofagoodday'sentertainmentwasabouttocommence,andtheBrothers, boysandvisitorsgathered foramixedgrillofconcert itemsandIrishfolkdancing, whichwasheldintheopen. open.
Alltheitemswerewell wellreceived,buttheone mostenjoyedbytheboys wasthatofMr.BrianWoodcock,whorenderedavery pleasingselectionofHillbillytunes,inwhichthe boysjoinedwithgusto.The Rev.P.McCuddenledaselectionofcommunityitems withhisaccordion.
Itemswerealsogivenby T.O'Brien,FergusColman (banjo),andMr.LeoMcCarronandBobMcInerney (duet).Themusicfor thedancingwassuppliedby FatherMcCudden,Mrs.E. O'Connor,Mrs.P.Maschmedt,Mr.T.O'Brien,Mr. FergusColman,andMr. RoyRussell.
Duringtheeveningeach boywasgivenaparcelof sweetsandbiscuits.Father McCuddenpresentedthe prizesduringtheinterval. HealsopresentedBrother Keaneywithtwobeautiful cupsonbehalfoftheclub,
fortabletenniscompetitions intheschool.Individual membersoftheclubdonatedanumberoftablegames andtabletennisoutfits whichweregiventoBrotherKeaneyforthegeneral useoftheboys.
Inthankingtheclubfor thegifts,BrotherKeaney saidhecouldeasilyunderstandtheeagernesswith whichtheboyslookedforwardtothevisitofthe Irishclub.Hesaidhewas verypleasedtoseethenumberofex-pupilsofBindoon whotravelledwiththeclub, andhehopedthatthey would-continuetopatronise theclubfunctions,asthey couldnotwishforcleaner orbetterentertainment.He issuedawarmwelcometo allthememberstovisit Bindoonasoftenaspossible,eithercollectivelyor individually.
