ScriptureprovesthatGod gaVetheApostlesthepower togoverninHisnamethe Church.Withthemandatetorule,OurLordalso conferredonHischosen12 theauthoritytoteach.

Thisisevidentfromthe verynatureofthings. The powertogovernallthings thatcanleadthefaithfulto theirendsupposesanddemandsapowertoteach, for unlessthemembersofthe Churcharetaughttheycannotrightlyandsafelybedirectedtosalvation.Accordingly, thisteaching powerisincludedintheabsolutelyuniversalpower thattheApostlesweregivenbyChristinthespiritual dominion, Thedoctrineisconfirmed bytheverywordsofOur Lord.AftertheLastSupper,ChristtoldtheApostles."IwillasktheFather andHewillgiveyouan-otherAdvocatetodwell withyouforever, theSpirit oftruthwhomtheworld cannotreceivebecauseit neitherseesHimnorknows Him.Butyoushallknow HimbecauseHewilldwell withyouandbeinyou" (Johnxiv,16-18).

Itwasthesamenightthat OurLord,inaddressingthe Apostles,said: "These thingsIhavespokentoyou
