Fromtheinauguralsports in1947thedayhasgrown inpopularity,andnowthe logchopranksasthegreatestinWesternAustralia.

Logswerecutunderthe supervisionoftheForestry department,andtoensure identicalcuttingcorititions, alllogsineachheatwere cutfromthesametrunk.A latheinventedbyRegFer'guson,formerlyofBelmont, andnowofManjimup,enabledthementobarkand trimthelogstoexactspecificationsinamatterofa fewminutes.Threegiants werecutanddiscardedin choosingthelogstobeused forthe'`Championof Champions"event.This waswonbyM.Dearle,a veteranaxeman.

Duffy,parishpriest,and memberofthecommittee stated.

Groundandparkingstewards,J.O'Sullivan,E. R.Heath,andJ.Barker, andtheirassistants,were coveredwithreddustafter theyhadsupervisedthe parkingofmorethan1,000 vehiclesofeverydescriptionandvintage.

ConfidencethatsomemeasureofjusticewouldbereceivedbytheCatholic schoolsinthenearfuturewasexpressedby HisGraceattheopeningoftheKensington ,school-church,Jan.27.TheArchbishop paidspecialtributeto"TheWestAustralian"foritsadvocacy'nthisregard.

Theblessingandopening ceremonywasperformed bytheArchbishop,assisted bytheV.Rev.A.E.Johnston,P.P.,andtheRev.J. Hogan.Twenty-fivepriests andsomehundredsofparishionerswitnessedthe ceremony.

InwelcomingHisGrace, FatherJohnstonsaidthe occasionmarkedanimportantmilestoneintheprogressofarelativelyyoung parish.Itwouldbetwo yearsold.onGoodFriday. ,,HisGracehadblessedthe presbyteryandthenew church-school. Thirteen yearsagohehadblessed theoriginalschool.He (FatherJohnston)hoped thattheextensionsandimprovementstotheoldclassroomswouldbereadyfor theopeningoftheschool 'year.

Hewasparticularlyhappy towelcometheArchbishop, forHisGracehadspent himselfforthegoodofthe Churchandthepeople throughoutthevastArchdiocesefornighontwodecades.

Theyhadonlytolook aroundtorealisesomethingofthezealandenthusiasmHisGracehad broughttohishighoffice. Whilecongratulatingthe AuxiliaryBishoponhis elevationtotheepiscopate,hehopedthatthe Archbishopwouldbelong sparedtoruleoverthe Archdiocesewhichhehad ruledsogenerouslyand ablyfortwodecades

Ineducationtheywere facedwithasituationwhich createdacertainresentmentinthemindsofCatholics.Itwasverystrange that,asparentsandAustrailans,theywereconsideredapeopleapart.

Theybuilttheirown schools,staffed,maintained, andpaidforthem.When thepermitshadbeenobtainedtheycouldsinkor swimasfarasmaterials wereconcerned.Nohelp ofanykindwasoffered. Henceeducationalbuildings inthecourseofconstructionfacedseveredifficultiesincompletionlargely throughsupplies.

Ontheotherhand,magnificentbuildingswere erectedbytheStateEducationdepartment,complete withallamenitieswhich weredeniedtotheprivate schools.Thepermitfor HolyCrosscentrehadbeen grantedmorethantwo yearsago,butitwasnotyet completed.

FatherJohnstonthanked

thepriestspresentfortheir interestandencouragement;thepeoplefortheir support.Theyhadtreated himwithgreatgenerosity, andtherewasacomplete understandingontheneeds oftheparish.

The2,000-wordApostolic Letter,namedafterits openingwords,"Cupimus Imprimis"(Wedesireinthe firstplace),wasissuedJan. 18,theFeastofSt.Peter's ChairatRome.Thetenor ofthedocumentismuch similartothatoftheApostolicLetteraddressedby theHolyFatherlastOct.28 totheChurchinCzechoslovakia,whichisalsobeset byCommunistpersecution.

ThePopewarnedthe Chinesefaithfulnottobe misledbyinsidiousattempts,undertheguiseof truth,tosetupaschismatic Church.

Meanwhile,-"surplus value,"whichissweated outoftheEastGerman workersatthebehestof theirSovietmaster,issent bythetruckloadeachweek toSovietRussia.

Thepictureisreproduced inalltheEuropeancountrieswhichlieunderthe Russianheel.Thestreamof wealthgoesoutfromthem andintoRussia.

Allthatchanges,accordingtoplaceandtime,isthe methodofextortingit.

TheSovietsatellites,for example,havetosupporta hostofSovietofficials,who feedlikeleechesontheir conqueredlands.Theyhave topayfortheoccupying Russiaparmies,whichare billetedandfedatthecost ofeachcountryoccupiedby Soviettroops.
