Fromtheinauguralsports in1947thedayhasgrown inpopularity,andnowthe logchopranksasthegreatestinWesternAustralia.
Logswerecutunderthe supervisionoftheForestry department,andtoensure identicalcuttingcorititions, alllogsineachheatwere cutfromthesametrunk.A latheinventedbyRegFer'guson,formerlyofBelmont, andnowofManjimup,enabledthementobarkand trimthelogstoexactspecificationsinamatterofa fewminutes.Threegiants werecutanddiscardedin choosingthelogstobeused forthe'`Championof Champions"event.This waswonbyM.Dearle,a veteranaxeman.
Duffy,parishpriest,and memberofthecommittee stated.
Groundandparkingstewards,J.O'Sullivan,E. R.Heath,andJ.Barker, andtheirassistants,were coveredwithreddustafter theyhadsupervisedthe parkingofmorethan1,000 vehiclesofeverydescriptionandvintage.

Theblessingandopening ceremonywasperformed bytheArchbishop,assisted bytheV.Rev.A.E.Johnston,P.P.,andtheRev.J. Hogan.Twenty-fivepriests andsomehundredsofparishionerswitnessedthe ceremony.
InwelcomingHisGrace, FatherJohnstonsaidthe occasionmarkedanimportantmilestoneintheprogressofarelativelyyoung parish.Itwouldbetwo yearsold.onGoodFriday. ,,HisGracehadblessedthe presbyteryandthenew church-school. Thirteen yearsagohehadblessed theoriginalschool.He (FatherJohnston)hoped thattheextensionsandimprovementstotheoldclassroomswouldbereadyfor theopeningoftheschool 'year.
Hewasparticularlyhappy towelcometheArchbishop, forHisGracehadspent himselfforthegoodofthe Churchandthepeople throughoutthevastArchdiocesefornighontwodecades.
Theyhadonlytolook aroundtorealisesomethingofthezealandenthusiasmHisGracehad broughttohishighoffice. Whilecongratulatingthe AuxiliaryBishoponhis elevationtotheepiscopate,hehopedthatthe Archbishopwouldbelong sparedtoruleoverthe Archdiocesewhichhehad ruledsogenerouslyand ablyfortwodecades
Ineducationtheywere facedwithasituationwhich createdacertainresentmentinthemindsofCatholics.Itwasverystrange that,asparentsandAustrailans,theywereconsideredapeopleapart.
Theybuilttheirown schools,staffed,maintained, andpaidforthem.When thepermitshadbeenobtainedtheycouldsinkor swimasfarasmaterials wereconcerned.Nohelp ofanykindwasoffered. Henceeducationalbuildings inthecourseofconstructionfacedseveredifficultiesincompletionlargely throughsupplies.
Ontheotherhand,magnificentbuildingswere erectedbytheStateEducationdepartment,complete withallamenitieswhich weredeniedtotheprivate schools.Thepermitfor HolyCrosscentrehadbeen grantedmorethantwo yearsago,butitwasnotyet completed.
FatherJohnstonthanked
thepriestspresentfortheir interestandencouragement;thepeoplefortheir support.Theyhadtreated himwithgreatgenerosity, andtherewasacomplete understandingontheneeds oftheparish.
