TheBeethovenSonatainD Major,Op.28,Ihavealready referredto.PerhapsIshould mentionthatthewholework wasplayedwithameticulous exactnessthatwouldundoubtedlypleasethepurist.

The"tourdeforce"oftherecitalwasLiszt's"Funerailles," whichcamenextontheprogramme.Thisisoneofasetof 10pieceswhichLisztcomposed underthegeneraltitleof"Poetic andReligiousHarmonies,"and itusesalmosteverydeviceof thepianoforte.Asaconcert pieceitisidealasademonstrationofthepianist'srangeof dynamics,andSandoriswell equippedinthisrespect.From aquiet,reflectiveopeninghe workeduptoatremendousfinalethatearnedhimrepeated callsbackonstage.
