AntoninZemek,Priorofthe DominicanMonasteryatZnojmo (Znaim)inSouthernMoravia, accordingtoaPragueradioannouncementmonitored here, FatherZemekandnineotherpereons,bothreligiousandlaymen, wereaccusedofhavingheped Czechoslovakpoliticalrefugeesin escapingacrosstheborderinto Austria,andofhavingbetrayed militarysecrets.
Oneoftheaccused,amerchant,identifselasFrantisek Skrapa,wasalsosentencedto18 years,theothereightreceiving prisontermsrangingfrom2to 15years.Thetrial,whichtook placeatBrno,capitalofMoravia,wasoriginallyscheduledto lastthreeweeks.Sentencewas passedaftertwodays.
ThePragueradioalsoreportedonthreetrialswheredeacon. iansentenceswereimposedon theaccused,manyofthemyoung personsandstudentscharged withhavingworked"fortheAmericancounter-intelligenceservice,"distributing"subversive leaflets"andother"anti-state" activities.
