PurposesofMarriage

Alawdecisionofverygreat interestandimportancewasgiveninLondonlastweek.A husbandhadbeenrefusedadivorceinaLowerCourtwhenhe appliedonthegroundthathis wifewouldnotpermitmarital relationsunlessheusedcontraceptives.Onanappealtothe HouseofLords,theChancellor (LordJowittjupheldtheLower Courtdecision.Inhisjudgment,theLordChancellorstated,accordingtothepressreport: "Marriagewasnotnecessarily fortheprocreationof.children, nordiditappeartobetheprincipalendofmarriageasunderstoodinChristendom."He addedthattheprincipalendof marriage,asunderstoodin Christendom,mightbedefined DSthe"voluntaryunionforlife ofonemanandonewomanto theexclusionofallothers." Christianmariragemeantthat anychildrenshouldbebrought upintheChristianfaith.That wasnotthesamethingassayingthatmarriagewasnotconsummatedunlesschildrenhad beenprocreatedorthatprocreationofchildrenwastheprincipalendofmarriage.Hetook theviewthatParliamentused "consummate"asthewordwas understoodincommonparlance Lndinthelightofsocialconditionsknowntoexist.

SinceLordJowittreferred twicetomarriage"asunderstoodinChristendom,"itmaybe presumedthathewasreferring tosomeChristianconceptionot wedlock,forgeographicallyand socially"Christendom"isa myth.AndsofarasIknow, thereisonlyonebodyin'Christendom"thatmaintainsadoctrinalcontinuityinregardto marriage,namely,theCatholic Church.How,then,didLord Jowittcometostraysosadly notonlyfromtheCatholicdogmaofmarriage,butevenfrom thepostulatesofnature?Itcannotbedeniedthat,naturally,a manhasanineradicabletendencytoreproducehisspecies. Perhapsthesimplestwayof gettingattherealfactsinthis matterisbythenegativeprocessofinvestigatingwhatalter nativethereistotheCatholic cioctrineasexpoundedin"Cash conubii."Ithasbeenclaimed bynotafewwhopassinour timeforphilosophersthatthe purposeofmarriageisthesexualself-expressionofmanand woman.Itis,ofcourse,true thatmanandwomanarecomplementarysexually.Butitis alsotruethathumanperfection maybefoundintheunmarried; indeed,thereneedbenothing lackinginrespectofcomplete humanperfectionintheindividual,maleorfemale.Ifthis wereintheLordChancellor's minditcanonlybesaidthat legalismcanbeasbarrenasit wouldmaketheweddedstate.

Inmyopinionthereismore thanapossibilityinsuchclues. ionsofamerelyverbalconflict.Itisquitesimpletoconrusesuchtermsas"principal" and"essential."Forinstance, theChurchteachesthattheprocreationandupbringingofchildrenisatoncetheprimaryand z:esentialpurposeofallmariiage.Thatisnottodenythat eulockhassecondarypurposes whichmayalsobeessential. UlmerthisheadingtheChurch includesthemutualhelpthat nusbandandwifecangivein theirunitedcareofthefamily, inmutualloveandupbringingof offspring;anotheressentialaspectofmarriageisthatitpro.sidesalawfuloutletforthede-hersoftheflesh,andthis grati'cationAidsatisfaction, whichisnormallyobtained throughmarriage,cannotbe foundinanyotherwaywithout gravesin.

Thereare,necessarily,cases where,owingtoadvancedageor ,therreasons,generationisnot atalllikely.Here,marriage maybeentereduponforitssecondarypurposesandbestill lawful.AlltheChurchdemands isthatmarriageshouldnotbe undertakenforsinfulpurposes, i.e.,forreasonscrntrarytoits primary,essentialpurpose.

OnSunday,December21,a newbranchoftheN.C.G.M.was openedbyRev.Dr.Sullivan,the DiocesanChaplain,inSt.Jos. eph'sChurch,Northam,during eveningDevotions.

ThesixleadersintheGroup receivedtheirnewly-blessed badgesinthechurch,after whichDr.Sullivangaveatalkon CatholicActionandtheplaceof YouthMovementsinthework ofbringingChristtotheworld. ThiswasfollowedbyBenedictionoftheBlessedSacrament.

AfterBenediction,asocial eveningwasheldintheParish Hall.MissRitaGallagher, Presidentofthenewlyformed branch,presidedandstarted proceedingsbywelcomingall presenttothebranchopening, expressingthehopethatthe groupwouldreceivethewholeheartedsupportofintending membersandalsoherappreciationattheattendanceofthose visitingtheparishfortheoccasion. TheVeryRev.DeanLenihan thencongratulatedthegirls' grouponhavingpersevered throughouttheirtrainingperiod,andwishedthemeverysuccessinthefuture.

Dr.Sullivanthenaddressed theassembledcrownonsomeof themorepracticalpointsofCatholicActionMovements,pointingouttheneedthatexistedin theworldto-dayforsuchorganiations,andalsocongratulated thegrouponbehalfoftheDf5cesanExecutiveoftheGirls' Movementandhimself.

Feweventsinthehistoryof ourparishhavecausedgreater regretthanthesuddendeathof ouresteemedparishioner-Mr. FrankMcKenney.

Sincethefoundationofthe parish,thedeceasedwasprominentineveryworkthataimed atthespiritualandtemporaladvancementofourCatholiccommunity.PresidentoftheSt. VincentdePaulConference,PresidentoftheHolyNameSociety, andsolecollectorofthevarious parochialcontributions,Mr.McKenneyedifiedallbyhisgreat charity,hissolidpiety,hishumbleandcourteousmanner.Well mighthe-claimexemptionfrom parishactivities,becauseofill health,whichheborewithChristianfortitudeoveranumberot years,buthisstrongFaithmade rightoftheseinfirmities,and hewasalwaysfirsttogivepracticalhelpinparochialaffairs. Amanoffewwords,hissuggestionswerealwayssoundand worthhearing. Alife-longworkerintheLabourMovement,hewasalways guidedbythoseCatholicprincipleswhichsavedhimfromthe errorsofourtime.Hislife's labourwasforGod.

Muchaswedeplorethedepartureofouresteemedfriend,we considerourselvesrichinthe happymemoriesofonewhogave himselfsounselfishlytoall thingsconcerningtheChurch. Hewilleverberememberedby thosewhoknewhimasthegood andfaithfulservant.Godgrant thatevennowhehasreapedthe fullreward.

Thesorrowingwidow,thesons anddaughtersofthedeceased havetheheartfeltsympathyof theParishPriestandparishionersofSt.Aidan's.Maythey findconsolationintheirhourof sorrow,bythethoughtthatsuch adevotedhusbandandfather willeverberememberedinthe Churchhelovedandservedso well.Mayhisgeneroussoul restinpeace.

TheNewYearisonusagain,anditisaseasonable andtraditionalmomentforreflection.Onelookswistfullybackatthesolutionsbrokenandhardlyremembered ofthepreviousyear,andiscomfortedbySeneca'sdictum:"Wefight,notthatwemayovercomesin,butthat wemaynotbeovercomebyit."Whathasnotbeen lostiscountedasgain.Andinsomeindefinableway theirrationaloptimismofthehumanheartlooksforward expectantlytosomeboonunsoughtandundeserved,from themerepassageoftime.Insobertruththeprospectis notcheerful.Thepastyearhasbeenfraughtwithperil andthethreatofnewwar.AndthisChristmastideseems notsomuchatruceasalull.Theairisclamorouswith themouthingsofthepeace-seekers,yetnotoneofthem stretchesouttothecauseofjustice,whereonallsaneand lastingpeacemustrest.

Theworldneedsthedisciplinarytreatmentwhichreligionholdsinitswisdomandmandates,andwhichthe Churchasabenignmother,unimpededbytheState. knowshowreasonablyandefficaciouslytoimpose.But, unfortunately,arrayedagainstreligionto-daythereare strongforcespledgedtodestroyitsidealsandrootitout oftheheartsofthepeople.Theseforcesaretheheralds ofrevoltandtheyareplayinguptothepassionsofthe hourby'theirofferingsofincreasedhumanlibertyandunrestrictedpaternalism.Atthecloseof1947wehaveour fears,but,thanksbetoGod,wehavealsoaboundless hopeinthefuture.Thereisinthewidedomainofthe CatholicChurchapleasingevilenceofincreasingvigour andgreatdevelopment.Herheroicservicestocivilisationarecontinuallywinningthepraiseofheropponents. Shealonestandsasthefearlessguardianofthesanctities ofChristianity.Thedawnof1948willbringtoherthe promiseofgreattriumphsinthesphereofreligion,and, maywehope,worldpeace.Thereisneed,then,fora stocktakinginthecouncilsofState,aswellasincorn\ mercialhouses,inthehome,inthepalacesofrulers,an,1 wheredeficienciesareshownthereshouldbehonestand earnestresolutionsmadebyallofustocorrectthemand tobeginthenewyearnotinameanspiritofcompromise butwithacourageousattempttoeliminatethemandto squareouraccountsbeforeGodifwearejustandnot faithlessstewards.

Retrospectandprospectoftheworldsceneseem, however,remotefromourindividuallives.Weseem,as personalities,impotentinthefaceofforceswhichwecannotcontrol.Yetitisnotso.Historydoesnotjust happen.Itispurposeful,itisthefruitionofthedeliberateactsofmen.And,howevertriflingtheindividual effortseems,weareyetboundtogetherinthenatural solidarityofthehumanrace,andinthesupernatural unityofChrist'sBody.Itisonlybecausethenumberof individualswhofailissogreatthatsocietyisgrippedwith fear,stagnation,anddecay.ItwillbeauniversalcalamitywhenmendonotcommencetheNewYearwith resolutions.For,unlessthereisaneworderingofour personallives,societywillneverrisefromthissloughof disillusionanddespair.Wearesociety.Theworldwill beregeneratedonlybythecontagionoftheChristianlife. Sothat,whateverelsewearedriventoinresolution,one thingonlyisnecessary-thatpersonallyintheNewYear weshalldosomeonethingthatwilltendtowardstherestorationofallthingsinChrist.

Ourfirstparentscouldhave, andshouldhave,usedtheirlibertytoloveandobeyGod,just thesameasyouandIcanuse ourliberty.

Asyouknow,theydisobeyed God. thegift ofliberty,justthesameasyou andIwouldifweweretolieor tosteal.Thereisnoseedof evilwhichmakesusdothese things. Wedeliberatelydo whatweknowiswrong.Such wrongdoingbringsitsownconsequences,makesusliars,or thieves.Elementaryhonesty enablesustoseeandtoadmit thatwe,andwealone,areresponsibleforsuchwrongdoing, andforitsconsequences.

1wishthesubjectIdiscuss hereinashortarticle,couldbe discussedinabigbook,ora longseriesofbooks.Irather fancythatifitcouldreallybe reducedtoitselementsweshould findtheelementarytruthsabout CatholicismandProtestantism, andthepresentproblemofour civilisation.Itwould,perhaps, explainwhy,inthecoming Christmas,manymillionsofour maturefellow-creatures,sofar fromhanginguptheirstockngs tohavethemfilled,willrather hanguptheirheartsandheads andfindthemempty;andwhy theywillcontinuetoenacta fableforchildrentobelievein, andforchildrenwhodonotbelieveinit.Forthesakeof brevity,letmesumupsucha scientificmonographyunderthe headsofthreeorfourquestions.

First,whowasSantaClaus, orwhowashesupposedtobe? Whydoweactuallydescribethe domesticandfamiliarfigureby anameinaforeignlanguage thatfewofusknow?Why shouldasortofuncleorgrand;tithersointimatethatheisallowedtoenterbythechimney, insteadofthefrontdoor,have onhisvisitingcardtheflorid nameofaratherdistingushed foreigner?Theanswerisimportant.

Itisbecauseinthiscountry thesaintsreallyhavecreptback againlikespies.St.Nichodas oftheChildrenmaynotcome throughthechimneylikeaburglar;buthewasreallyadmitted, throughthefrontdooronlyasa -foreigner.Itispartofaparadox:thatProtestantEngland satisfieditsintenseinsularity mainlybytheuseofforeign words.

Forinstance,mencannotdo withouttheimageoftheMother ofGod:theveritableQueenof Hearts,witheverysortoflovers ineverysortofland,Butthe VictoriansgotoverheromnipreAnceinallartbycallingher"a :Madonna,"whateverthatmay mean.AsitwasBritishtotalk ofMaryonlyinItalian,soit wasBritishtotalkofSt.NicholasonlyinGerman. Sowe couldtapallthetraditionalpoetryofChristendomwithoutcallingitCatholicorevenChristion.Itwasasortofsmuggling; wecouldimportNicholaswithoutoutpayingthetaxtoPeter.

Secondly,everybodycouldthen disposethemselvesinelegantattitudesofsadsympathyandpatronisingpityoveramerefairy taleforchildren,whichchildren themselvesmustsoonabandon. SantaClaushaspassedintoa proverbofillusionanddisillusion.

Amanwroteapoemabout howhehadceasedtobelievein SantaClausattheageofseven, andinGodattheageofseventeen;andexplainedhowhereallyregrettedGodnotmuchmore thanSantaClaus.Thenotion thatthethingeverhadanyrelationtoanyreligion,orthat religionhadeverhadanyrelationtoanyreason,orthatithad beenapartofarealphilosophy withafringeofpopularfancies, butabodyofmoralfact,never occurredtoanybody.

AndIstartledsomehonest Protestantsbytellingthemthat, thoughIam(unfortunately)no longerachild,IdomostdefinitelybelieveinSantaClaus;though Iprefertotalkabouthiminmy ownlanguage.Ibelievethat St.NicholasisinHeaven,accessibletoourprayersforanybody;ifhewassupposedtobe speciallyaccessibletoprayersof children,asbeingtheirpatron,1 seenoreasonwhyheshouldnot heconcernedwithhumangifts tochildren.Idonotsuppose thathecomesdownthechimney, butIsupposehecouldifhe liked.

TheemporiumversionorHolyNicholasoftheChildren?

Thepointisthat,forme, thereisnotthatcompletechasm orcuttingoffofallrelations withthereligionofchildhood whichisnowcommoninthose whobeganbystartinganewre ligionandhaveendedbyhaving noreligion.

Third,doourcontemporaries reallyknoweventhelittlethere istoknowabouttherootsor possibleorigins,ofsuchromancesofpopularreligion?Imyselfknowverylittle;butareallycompletemonographonSanta Clausmightraisesomeveryinterestingquestions.

Forinstance,St.Nicholasof BariisreprsentedinawellknownItalianpictureofthelater MiddleAges,notonlyasperformingthedutyofagift-bringer,butasactuallydoingitby themethodsofaburglar,Heis representedasclimbingupthe grilleorlatticeofahouse,solelyinordertodroplittlebagsof goldamongthemembersofa poorfamily,consistingofan agedmanandthreebeautiful daughters,whohadnomoneyfor theirweddingdowries.Thatis anotherquestionforourcontemporaries:whywerecelibate saintssofrightfullykeenongettingotherpeoplemarried?But, anyhow,Igivethisonlyasan exampleoutofahundred,which mightwellbefollowedupif onlygrown-uppeoplecouldbe inducedtotakeSantaClausseriously.

Itlooksasifitmightbethe rootofthelegend.Toseea saintclimbingupthefrontof ourhousewouldseemtomostof isasoddasseeing asaint climbingdownourchimney.Very probablyneitherofthethngs happened;butitmightbeworth whileevenforscientificcritics tofindoutwhatdidhappen.

Fourth,whatdoourgreatmoderneducationists,ourgreatmodernpsychologists,ourgreat makersofanewworld,meanto doaboutthebreachbetweenthe imaginationandthereason,if onlyinthepassagefromtheinfanttotheman?Isthechild toliveinaworldthatisentirely fanciful,andthenfindsuddenly thatitisentirelyfalse?Oris thechildtobeforbiddenall formsoffancy;or,inother words,forbiddentobeachild? Orishe,aswesay,tonave someharmlessborderlandof

fancyinchildhood,whichisstill apartofthelandinwhichhe willliveinterraviventium,in thelandoflivingmen?

"Itislamentablethatarising frommixedmarriagesanddivorcesomanyhomeshavebeen brokenupinAustraliaandelsewhere.Wehavebeentoldthat theFederalParliamentcontemplatesnewdivorcelegislation.It isanxiousapparentlytohave uniformdivorcelegislationinall oftheStates.Nodoubtitis intendedtobringStates,which arenotasfreeasothersin grantingdivorce,uptothelevel ofthose,whicharefreerin grantingdivorce.Thiswillmean, ineffect,thattherewillbe greaterfacilitiesincertain partsofAustraliafordivorce thanhitherto.

Toyouandtomethiswillbe mostlamentable.TheCatholic Churchistheonlyreligious bodythatstandsfour-square againstdivorce.Thishasalwaysbeensoandeverwillbe. Otherpeoplethoughtthatdivorcemightbegrantedforseriousreasons.Thiswentonfor atimeuntilnowwefindthat divorceisgrantedforthemost frivolousreasons.Brokenhomes andneglectedchildrenarethe resultofthispolicyandthe wholecommunityisthesufferer. Ishouldlike,therefore,tomake aprotestagainstproviding greaterfacilitiesfordivorcein anypartofAustrala.Weare badlyoffasitiswithoutdoing anythingmoretojeopardisethe homelifeofthiscountry.

IndiaNoTheocratic State

ThecreationofPakistanwas asignaltomanyHinduorthodox religioniststoagitateforanexclusiveandprofessedlyHinduraj inIndia.Despitetheformal announcementsoftheGovernment,atthetimeofitsinauguration,ofIndiaasafreeState, withequalstatusandfreedomto allreligions,thecontinuedeffervescenceofcommunalrioting andthelarge-scalepopulationtransfersandtheconsequent murderandpillagewereyetanotheropportunityforpopularisingthepleaforapurelyHindu establishmentinIndia.This move,however,wasseverelydiscountenancedbyPanditJawaharlalNehruwhenheaddressed amassivegatheringon"Gandhi Jayanti"dayinDelhi.The GovernmentandtheCongress," hesaid,"willnotatanycostallowIndiatobecomeatheocratic State.AHindurajwillmean turningtheclockbackby500 years.Thatwouldstrikeat theveryheartoftheidealsof democracy,equalityandliberty, forwhchwefoughtsohardand whichatlastwehaveincorporatedinourconstitution."

TheAlJolsonsaga-"TheJolsonStory"-beganalong-run seasonattheCapitolTheatreon Friday.Thefilmingofthis featuremarksthecontinencementofanewfirst-releasepolicyattheCapitol.

Thepremierewasverywell attended,andaboutallthatwas neededtosetoffthefirst-night atmospherewasthepersonalappearanceofoneormoreofthe 'Stars."Speakingoftheseone mustwarmlycomplimentLarry Parksforasuperlativepieceof doubl'ng.Itwasthevoiceof AlJolsonweheard,anditwas nothardtoimaginethatitwas reallyAlJolsoninfrontofus allthetime.Thedovetailing ofvoiceandmouth-movement wasperfect;thegesturingwas thatofJolsonhimself,andif anyonefanciesitwouldbeeasy toimitatetheJolsonanticslet him,buttryit.Probablyno otheractorhasleftsuchanindividualisticimpressioninthe annalsofthetheatre.Jolson wastheforerunner,ifnotthe creator,ofjazz,andthejerky inconsequentialmovementsoftenappearinginsaneor,at thebest,eccentric-wouldseem todefyimitation.ButParks gotthereingreatstyle,and addedforgoodmeasurethe pleasingimpressofhisownlivelypersonality.Hewasas goodifnotbetterthantheoriginal.

Ofcourse,onewouldhaveto bearealJolson"fan"toenthuseoverallaspectsofthepicture,Frankly,IfoundJolson'svoiceandJolson'sextraordinarybehaviourattimes wearying. Icannotclaimtobe anall-outadmirerofthepeculiartechniquehedevised;but therewereothertimeswhenI applaudedwarmly-as,forinstance,duringthesingingofthe waltznumberwhichheralded hiscome-back.Thatwasafine piecedfworkfromallangles. Specialmention,too,shouldbe madeofthetunefuljuniorwho appearedasAlinhistenser youth.

EvelynKeyesnecessarilytakes abackseatinthisproduction, butweareeverynowandthen remindedpleasinglyofherpresence.Sheisnothardtolook at.

Thefilmisintechnicolourand runsforabouttwohours.Itis amusicalwhichislikelyto provepopular,andshouldhave asuccessfulseason.Itisrobustentertainmentmodelledon afamiliarpattern,andasfilms gothesedaysitiswellwortha visit. -DEGUSTIBUS.

Thepoorpatronageattending theSisterKenny"filmatthe Plazaisanotherindicationof thepublic'sreluctancetosink itsteethintoanythingsolid. Onewouldbeparodnedforthinkingthatafilmaboutagreat Australianwouldofitsownaccoldexactameasureofloyalty andinterest;butitwereashard toshiftthepublicoutofits grooveasitwasforSister Kennytoovercometheoppositionofthemedicalprofessionto herrevolutionarytrtatmentof infantileparalysis.Noteven theadvent'ofpopularRosalind I;usselltothenameparthas cutmuchice. Admittedlytheearlyphases ofthefilmaresuchasmightrepelthefaint-hearted.Itisnot verycongenialtositinaluxuriousseatandwatchtheagony andhearthemoansofachild victimofadreaddisease. I foundmyselfwishingIwasn't present.Butreasontriumphed overemotions,andIstuckitout tofindthathorrorgaveplaceto movingcompassionandwonderfuladmirationforthepioneerof anewapproachtoaproblem whichhasbaffledmedicalscience.Theemphasisplacedon thesufferingofthepatientis onlysufficienttodrawattention totheparamountimportanceof findingasolution;andbyinferencewearemadetoseethatSisterKenny's.sacrificeofherown personalinterestsistrulyheroic. Shecouldhavemarriedaman whomshedteplyloved,andwho lovedhersowellastowaita lifetimeforher;butthiswould havemeantthatherworkwould neverhavegoneon,forthe"specialists"ofthemedicalworld wertadamantlyopposedtoher interferenceinasphereinwhich theythoughtshehadnoplace. Theywerenotpreparedevento tryhertheories,andthefilm demonstratesthatwhenonegen-

oralpractitionerwhohadalways believedinherdideventuallytry hermethodsofhisownaccord, hewasunsuccessfulbecausehe didnotfullyunderstandher methodofapproach.Soitwas essentialthatSisterKennydevoteherlifetoastrugglewhich shouldproperlyhavebeentne jobofthemedicos.

Thisfilmhassomedeficiencies whenviewedfromthestandpoint oftechnicalartistry.Scenes havebeentelescopedintoone anothersoastokeepattention focussedonthemainargument. Itseemsasifthestudiotook theviewfromtheoutsetthat thepublicwouldn'tlapupthis one,andconsequentlydecidedto savedollars.Certainlyitstands orfallsonitsintrinsicinterest; althoughitmustbeconceded thatRosalindRussell'sdramaticworkishigh-class,andthat muchotheracting(particularly thatofAlexanderKnox)isnoteworthy.

Averyprominentfeatureof thefilmistheforthrightscotchingoftheoldbogeythatdoctors areinfallible.Thisisafilm thatCroninandBernardShaw wouldthoroughlyenjoyfrom oneaspectatleast.Itreveals thescandalouslengthstowhicn hide-boundauthoritywillgoin anefforttokeeptheamateur "outsidethewallsofJericho;' BothinAustraliaandinthe U.S.A.officialinvestigatingcammissionsdenouncedtheworkof SisterKenny.Yetthefacts announcinghersuccessareincontrovertible. Inthefinal analysisitseemsthathervindicationwillcomefromthecries ofgratitudewellingupinevergrowingvolumefromthehearts ofmothersandfathersandpa- tientsallovertheworld;andthe torrentofsoundwilldestroythe wallsofJerichoasofold. -DEGUSTIBUS.

Thestarswereclearlycutand brilliantinthedarkvelvetskyof thisChristmasEve,andthemoon showeditssilveryfaceovera vagueshadowyhorizon.Ina small,dingyroomatthetopofa highbuilding,adark-eyedboysat atamellowoldpiano,andthe softstarlightshonefaintlyonhis slenderfingers,whichwerestrayinguponthesilvernotesofBee thooven's"Moonlight"Sonata. BeethovenandMozartwere standinginthecornerofHeaven nearesttoearthwhentheyheard it,Beethovenstoppedshortin hisspeech. "Hush!"hewhispered."Some oneisplayingmy'Moonlight Sonata'thereonearth,"andhe peereddowntillatlasthesawthe boyintheshabbylittleroom.

"Look,Wolfgang!Thereheis!" liesaidsoftly.

"Hehasanexquisitetone,"said Mozart."IwillcallChopinand FranzLiszt.They,too,woould Nvslitohearhim."

Thefivemusiciansdespatched theirgiftsandwatchedthem floatslowlyearthwards.But, suddenly,theboyonearthstoppedplaying,andcrashedouta loudharshchord,buryinghis faceinhisarms.Thespellwas broken,andthemusicians'gifts hungforasecondinthesky, thenshatteredintoamillion shinyfragments,whicheach madeitswaytotheheartsof amilionpeopleonearth.

ThemusiciansinHeavensaw, andsighedsadly.
