Onthefaceofittheclaimby JewrythatPalestineisitsspiritualhomeisabsurd,seeingthat theyleftthecountry2,000years agoorso.Thenwhythehysterical'effort,accompaniedby theworstformofaggression,to regainit?

Thefollowingextractfromthe Anglo-AmericanCommitteeof Inquirythrowsconsiderablelight ontheproblem.

"Ourexaminationofconditions inPalestinehasledustothe conclusionthatoneofthechief causesoffrictionisthegreatdisparitybetweenJewishandArab standardsofliving.

Theforegoingissufficientto showhowitisthattheJewsare soenthusiasticforaNational HomeinPalestine,andwhythe Arabsresentit.Itwillbenotedthatthroughoutthereportof theAnglo-AmericanCommittee thereisnomentionofthesource oftheJews'financialsupporttheimportantpoint.

TheAnglicanBishopofLondon(Dr.Wand)wasreportedin thepressrecentlyassayingthat theChurchofEnglandhadthe worstattendancepercentagein Britain.TheChurchofEnglandhadnofixedruleaboutattendance,ashebelievedtheRomanCatholicChurchhad,buthe thoughtthattheChurchofEnglandwouldhavetolaydownsome ruleforattendanceatpublic worshipatleastonceonSunday. Foranotherthing,itisextremelydoubtfulwhetherthe ChurchofEnglandcouldenforce aruleregardingobligatoryattendanceatpublicworship.Certainly,whenoneofthebestknownfigulesoftheEnglish hierarchycannotbe"sacked"or evendisciplinedforteachingoutrightheresy,itisnotlikely thattheAnglicanlaityisgoingtotakemuchnoticeofsuch impotentleaders.Inanycase, Dr.Wand'sproposalamountsto theexerciseofaspiritualauhoritvwhichtheEstablished Churchhasdeniedforcenturies. that-eitheritortheChurchof Romepossessed.Itseemsa littlelateinthehistoricalprocesstoproposewieldingapower whichtheyhaveonlyjustdiscoveredwastheirs.Butitis allofapiecewithotherAngloCatholicpretensions,whichhave suddenlyrevivedafterthreecenturiesofsturdydenial.
