Onceagain,theissueisnotreallywiththepoliticiansatall.The French,beingatonceanironic andreasonablepeople,understand thatyoumusthavesomekindof government,buttheytreatall governmentswithanequalscepticism.Itisimportant,justnow, torealisethedepthoftheirdisillusion.Theyaredisgustedwith theirpre-warpoliticians,whom theynevertrustedatall;they predisgustedwiththeGovernmentofVichy,which,inthepersoAofitsvenerableChief,they forafewmomentstrustedalmost implicitly:theyarenowbeginningtobedisgustedwiththepoliticiansoftheResistance,who havedegradedFrenchjusticeto a"popular"levelquiteincompatiblewithsecurityforthecommonman;indeedtheoneman immunefromtheirdistrustisGeneraldeGaulle,whotheyhaverespectedbutneverloved.They havetoorecentandpainfula memoryof,dictatorialgovernmenttowanttodispensewith Parliament.buttheyarestillaskingthemselveshowParliament willwork.

Especiallywillthebodiesofthe just,liketherisenbodyofJesus. enjoyfourgloriousqualities.They are:impassibility,agility,subs ility,andbrightness.
Impassibility.

Brightness.
