CANJEWSBESAVED?
Q.:CanJewsenterintoheavenif theydonotbelieveinJesusChrist theSonofGod?
A.Jewswhoingoodfaithdonot believethatJesusistheNiessiasand SonofGod,canbesavediftheykeep thelawofGod,repentoftheirsins, anddieinthestateofgrace.
Whe;theyareingoodfaithand aresincerelyignorantofthetruecharacterofChristandtheclaimsofthe CatholicChurchorChristianity,they aresaidtobelongtothetrueChurch inspirit,andarehencecapableof sharinginthegraceofGod.If,however,theyareinbadfaithregarding thepersonandclaimsofChristand theChurch,theycannotbesaved.
ThefollowingextractfromapronouncementofPopePiusIX.onthis matterputsthecaseclearly.After assertingthatthosewholivedoutside thetruefaithandCatholicunity, throughtheirownfaultcouldnotattaineternallife,hecontinued:
"Itisknowntousandtoyouthat thosewhothroughnofaultoftheir ownareignorant-ofourmostholyreligion.butwhoobservethepreceptsof thenaturallaw(i.e.,theTenCommandments)whichGodhaswritten intheheartsofallmen,andwhoin theirwillingnesstoobeyGod,livean honestanduprightlife,maybytheaid ofthedivinelightandgrace,attainto eternallife.ForGodwhobeholds, searchesandknowstheminds,the hearts,thethoughtsandhabitsofall men,inHisSovereignGoodnessand Mercy,doesnotpermitanyonetosuffer,eternalpunishmentwhoisguiltless ofawilfultransgressionofHislaw."
InthispronouncementthePope, whilevigorouslyupholdingtheteachingthatmembershipintheChurchis theordinarymeansofsalvation, atthe sametimetaughtthatonewhoin goodfaithisignorantoftheclaimsof theChurch, isexcusedfromguilt, and willbesaved, ifhediesinthestate ofgrace.

Andiftheseparationgrantedbythe Churchispermanent, andthehelpof thecivillawisneededtoenforceit, theecclesiasticalauthoritymightallow theCatholicpartytoseekandobtain acivildivorce.
