WhyistheCatholicChurchopposedto Socialism?

Beforeansweringthatquestion,itis necessarytoseewhatismeantbySocialism;forthewordisoftenvaguely usedtosignifyanythingfromameasuredesignedtohelpthepoortoRussianCommunism.Infact,ourlocal "Comrades,-inorderthemoreeffectivelytoconcealtheirrealaims,now usuallycallthemselves"Socialists."

However, theword"Socialism"is hereusedtodesignatethatsystemof socialandeconomicorganisationin whichtheStatebecomesthesoleowner ofallthesourcesofproductionand meansofdistribution, andthereby sumestoitselfadespoticcontroloftne chiefactivitiesofhumanlife.
