TheRightRev.Dr.R.Miller,preachingataHarvestThanksgivingService inSt.Mark'sChurch,Armagh,said thattheyiiftheSouthhadhadgreat difficulties,butitwasfittingtoacknowledgethatsincetheSouthern Governmenthadbeenestablishedvigorouseffortshadbeenmadetogive protectiontotheirlivesandproperties. Therewasabundantevidencethat theyweresucceeding,andalthougha considerabletimemightelapsebefore completelynormalconditionswererestored,therewasnodoubtastothe Government'sintentionandtheirkeen desireforjusticeandreligiousliberty. Itwasnot,thereforeoutofplaceto pleadfromthepulpitforprayersfor peaceandunity.Willingunitywould comewhenitwaspreparedbyanatmosphereofintercessionandbyconsequentwillingnesstolookatthesame questionfromthepointofviewof thoseopposedtothem.Wasittoo muchtolookforwardtoanIreland controlledbyaGovernmentwhowould givethefullestcivilandreligious libertytoallitssubjectsandwho,at thesametime,wouldinsistthatthe olddenominationalbarriersshouldbe brokendownandIrishmenandIrishwomenshouldbebroughtuptogether inawholesomeChristianatmosphere?
