retreat, is in rout. But is this class war? It is merely the working people, who are the nay tion in numbers coming into their own, determined to rule themselves in future through their own class, as the landed classes and the moneyed classes have done hitherto. And if the working men have the common sense to

vote for working men candidates, as the wealthy voted for wealthy candidates, they are as much entitled to govern this county as anyone else. And if they can display less intelligence that Mr. Churchill, the hero of Antwerp and Gallipoli and Murmansk, they will have a positive genius for blundering. But why should they not form an admirable Government? They have most intelligent leaders. They have an excellent programme. They recognise and welcome all men who work, whether with body or brain. If they can gather into their ranks an "intelligentsia" they will do well. they cannot possibly do worse than Mr. Balfour or Mr. Asquith or Mr. Lloyd George. And they are being recruited from the middle classes, who no longer dread the advent of Labour, having discovered that they too are workers. Everybody who works for his living is joining the Labour movement, and everybody who doesn't is trembling lest he may have to work. Hein may, favLabour will legislate he will. our of the principle that all men should render some service to the community, and should not be allowed to live in idleness and luxury. So far all sensible people will go with Labour. The idle classes have had their day. ST. GERARD'S HOSPITAL Surgical, Medical, and Midwifery. 61 CAMBRIDGE -ST., LEEDERVILLE
