TheInstitutehadbeenoriginally foundedfortheForeignMissionsbut

don,andbeganatLyons(inFrance), onAug.15th,1861,theInstituteof NotreDamedesMissions. TheConfessorisboundtokeep "theKing'sSecret"evenwhenabsolutionhastohedeniedordeferred thoughwantoftruesorroworpurposeofamendmentonthepartof thepenitent-orforsomeotherseriousreason.ThecaseofSt.John Nepornucene,ofPrague,whoguttereddeathratherthanbetraytheconfidencereposedinhimbyhisdevout penitent,thewifeoftheEmperor WenceslausIV.,KingofBohemia, isonlyoneinstanceofheroicsilence. Variousversionsweregivenofthis treestory,whichsoundsstranger thanfictionorromance,butthefollowingauthenticnarrativefromthe penofFatherWatson,S.J.,ofMelboerne,wasreceivedthroughthe SydneyMaristFathersfromthe ChaplainofNewCaledonia:-
