Ittakesverylittletoticklethe visibilitiesofourM.P.'sduringa debate.Anervousmembersittingon hishat,apartly-forgottenspeech,a blunderinParliamentarydeportment,oraninnovationintheway ofdressissufficienttosetmembers gurglingwithmerriment.TheHouse wasnevermoreamused,forinstance, thanwhenMr.WinstonChurchillhad thetemeritytostrolldowntothe flooroftheHouse,duringanallnightsitting,wearingapairofslippers,aflannelsuit,andagraceful collarthatoverflowedhisneck.

"Pyjamas!"shoutedsomeone.

"Takethemoff,Churchill!"yelled another whileevenNor.Lloyd GeorgeturnedareprovingcountenanceontheFirstLordoftheAdmiralty,asthelattermadepreparationstofly,andexclaimed,"Oh, andpinkofallcolours!"

TheHouse,too,isneverslowto seizeuponanunintentionalpersonal touchinaspeech,afactwhichMr. ReginaldMcKennamayvouchfor. Twoweeksafterhismarriageto thatcharmingandmostsuccessfulof politicalhostesses,MissPamela Jekyll,in19tH,hewas"onthe floor,"arguinginfavouroftheGovernment'sold-AgePensionscheme.

"Itisrelativelycheaperfortwo personslivingtogetherthanone," bedeclared.

Mr.PeterO'Loghlen,oftheState Parliament,whoiscontestingthe SwanFederalelectorateinoppositiontoSir.JohnForrest,wasaccordedapublicreceptionbythecitizensofthe"Birthplace"recently. ArchdeaconSmyth,insupportingthe welcome,saiditwasagreatprivilegetohepresent,astherewashardlyanamebetterknownthroughout theStatethanthatof"O'Loghlen," betterknownas"Peter."Therewere manyPetersinhistorywhohad beengreatmen.Somehow,he thoughtthatthePeterbeforehim sharedsomeoftheirleadingcharacteristics.TherewasPeterthe GreatofRussia,wholikedtohave bigmenroundhim,andwaswilling topaylargesumsfortheirservices.TheirPeterpossessedthe samevirtue,thatof"goingforbig men."PetertheHermitwasaremarkablemanintheMiddleAges. ThemonthlymeetingoftheExecutiveCounciloftheaboveSociety washeldatSnigg'sBuildingson Wednesdayeveninglast,whenthe 1-1.C.R.(Bro.Healy)presidedovera fullattendanceofdelegatesfromthe variousBranches.DuringtheeveningtheH.C.R.addressedafewwords ofwelcometoBro.J.O'Donohue, whohadbeenabsentintheEastern Statesforsometime.Inacknowledgingthekindlywelcomeaccorded him,Bro.O'Donohue,anenthusiastic workerinallmattersrelatingto IrishNationalForestry,relatedsome veryinterestingfactsconcerningthe methodsandprogressoftheSociety inVictoriaandNewSouthWales,in bothofwhichStates,hewaspleased tosay,theSocietywasinavery flourishingcondition,andwereaddingtotheirmembershipinavery pleasingdegree.Especiallywasthis soinNewSouthWales,wherethe Executivebodycontemplatedopening branchesinotherfields.Thequestionsubmittedtoaballotofmemberswasmentioned,butowingto thelatenessofthehour,andseveraldetailsrequiringconsideration,it wasdecidedtodeferannouncingthe resultuntilafterthenextmeeting.

Theusualfortnightlymeetingof theaboveBranchwasheldoaTuesdayeveninglast,whenthe v.erthy President,Bro.VeryRev.Peen O'Rielly,presidedoverafairgatheringofrepresentatives.

AmostpleasingfeatureoftheproceedingswasthenominationofMr. W.B.oalingtothemembertetipof thebranch.WhenMr.Coolinghad thehonourofbeingintheretakebeforeheheldthedistinctionoficePresident,andalwaysevidenceda keenandenthusiasticdesiretotertherthebranchbothsociallyand otherwise.

branchisindeedfortunate,andthe societygenerally,inhavingsuchtwo ableandpatrioticmemberstoguard overtheaffairsofthemembersfor theensuingperiod.

DuringthedepartureofBro.J. TullyfromtheState,forsome monthstocome,thequestionof dealingwiththeappointmentofan actingSecretarywasdiscussed.This Positioneventuallyfelltothelotof Bro.Win.Tully,whowillacetonedutiesatthefollowingmeeting.Inrecognitionofhispastwork,theSecretarywastherecipientofagenerousdonationfromthebranch,to whichhesuitablyreplied.

Thequarterlyreturnsrecentlysubmittedshowedthebranchtobeina flourishingfinancialstate,every,fund carryingasplendidcreditbalance, whiletheAuditors(SisterLandquist andBro.Preston)reportedinahighlysatisfactorymanner.Toback tissplendidrecordup,anappealis madetomemberstoattendingreaternumbersatthemeetings,when duringthewintermonthsthesocial sideofthebranchcouldbeattended towithmuchgreaterenthusiasm.
